Sixth teenage boy charged with terrorism offence over alleged stabbing at Wakeley church

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with a terrorism offence in relation to the alleged stabbing of a religious leader at a Wakeley church last week.

He is the sixth teenager to be charged in connection with the incident.

He was denied bail and will appear at a children’s court on Saturday to face a charge of conspiring to engage in any act in preparation, or planning, or a terrorist act.

The latest arrest of a teenage boy comes after investigators executed 13 search warrants across several suburbs in Sydney on Wednesday, including Bankstown, Prestons, Casula, Lurnea, Rydalmere, Greenacre, Strathfield, Chester Hill, and Punchbowl, as well as a premises in Goulburn.

More than 400 officers from the NSW Police and the Australian Federal Police were involved in the operation.

Seven teenage boys were arrested. A further five people, including two men and three juvenile males, also assisted police with their inquiries.

Five teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, were charged and remain before the courts.

A seventh teenager has been released pending further investigation.

The Joint Counter Terrorism Team Sydney is comprised of members from the NSW Police Force, Australian Federal Police, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation and NSW Crime Commission.

Investigations under Operation Mingary continue.
