Latrell Mitchell is reportedly weighing up whether or not he’ll put his hand up for State of Origin in 2024.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs superstar is currently serving a three-game suspension and is said to be intent on putting his focus on his club over representing the NSW Blues.

According to the SMH, Mitchell’s sit-down conversation with club officials regarding his commitment to the club have made him consider where his priorities lie.

Following his three-game ban, after two ugly incidents against the Warriors which included an elbow to Shaun Johnson, the gun fullback reportedly feels a debt to the Rabbitohs.

Mitchell is due to return to the Rabbitohs’ line-up during round 10 when they take on the Dragons on May 11.

The club currently sit dead last on the NRL ladder with only one win to their name after eight rounds of the season.

The dismal start to the start, following on from their lacklustre end to 2023, has heaped pressure on coach Jason Demetriou.

NSW Blues coach Michael Maguire will name his Game 1 side for the 2024 State of Origin series on May 27.

Mitchell has previously withdrawn from Origin, having made himself unavailable for all three games in 2022 after he returned from a hamstring injury.

The Rabbitohs reportedly won’t interfere with Mitchell’s decision regarding the 2024 Origin series and are aware he’s considering withdrawing from the selection equation.

When asked about Mitchell’s Origin credentials, Maguire said: “Everyone knows the capabilities of Latrell, but it’s about making sure he is in the right headspace.

“At the moment, one thing I know is that in big games, you need your focus right about where you are going.

“Souths are going through a tough period, but Latrell has a chance to bunker down and really help the NSW team.

“He has another couple of months where he can put himself into that shape, but Origin games are up there with the biggest games of your life.”
