‘Wings in heaven’: 15-year-old girl dies after motorcycle race crash

A 15-year-old motorcycle racer died in a horror accident during an event.

Amelia Kotze died in hospital after being seriously injured during a Central Coast Cup race on May 25.

Motorcycling New South Wales confirmed Ms Kotze’s death in a statement, describing her as a “rising star in the dirt track world”.

Emergency services were called to the Allen Park race track in Somersby near Gosford at 2pm on Saturday and she was flown to Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney with life-threatening injuries.

She was treated in intensive care but died on Tuesday, May 28.

A 14-year-old boy was also injured in the accident, but not seriously.

“She was a model of talent, determination and sportsmanship. Her impressive achievements spoke volumes about her dedication to the sport,” said Motorcycling New South Wales.

The young rider successfully won Victoria’s Junior Girls State Titles in November as well as the NSW Junior Track Championships last year – and she also competed in the Australian Dirt Track Championships.

The student at Belmont Christian College in Lake Macquarie was awarded the title “Junior Female Rider of the Year” last year.

A GoFundMe campaign raised over $14,000 to support the family.

Before her death, the organizer wrote: “Amelia is a 15-year-old young lady who is an absolute inspiration to everyone who meets her and an amazing champion on and off the racetrack.

“Amelia needs our support. Let us come together and help her family with any medical expenses, housing costs for her family to be with her, and/or any unexpected costs that may arise during this difficult time.

“I ask anyone who can support Amelia and her family to please do so, no matter how big or small, every dollar helps during this heartbreaking time.”

After her death, the page was updated with the following message: “Our little champion of the racetrack has finished her race here with us and has been given her wings to race in heaven.

“You were such an inspiration to everyone and we will all miss you dearly. Go for it baby, fly high and ride hard beautiful girl. Forever #789 xoxo,” it continued, paying tribute to her bib number.

Friends and family paid tribute to the young woman on social media.

“Keep riding on our little pocket rocket. We are so lucky to have you in our lives and as part of our family. Our hearts are broken and we will love you forever,” one wrote.

“Our thoughts are with everyone in the racing community and Amelia’s family who have experienced the devastating loss of a beautiful young woman. Rest in peace Amelia,” wrote another.
