Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced during a corporate governance policy briefing that the successor to Nintendo Switchwhich is called Switch 2, will be compatible with the company's current-gen console. This may not surprise some, but until now, many fans are not sure if the Switch 2 will be able to play the same games as the original Switch. Along with this announcement, Furukawa also confirmed that the Switch 2 will have Nintendo Switch Online functionality. In the rest of the world, players who have an NSO account for the current Switch do not need to make a new one for the successor of the console.
The fact that the Switch 2 is compatible with the original Switch means that many Wii U games will be playable on the upcoming system. While the Wii U game library isn't supported on the Switch, most exclusives from the ill-fated system have been ported over to Nintendo's next-gen console over the years. Due to the compatibility of the Switch 2, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Super Mario 3D World, and dozens of other Wii U games on the Switch are playable across three console generations, which is pretty impressive. Hopefully, Nintendo brings games from some of its other consoles to the Switch 2 as well.

Rumor: The Switch 2 may have features Nintendo doesn't like
Recent rumors have suggested that the Switch 2 may include technical features that are not very similar to Nintendo's.
The Switch 2 should support games from other Nintendo consoles besides the Wii U and Switch
The NSO Switch service doesn't have an important part of Nintendo's history, like the GameCube
Nintendo has released some games from its legacy consoles on the Switch through Nintendo Switch Online, but not all platforms are available on the service. Of these consoles, perhaps the most glaring omission from the NSO is the GameCube. This sixth generation system is home to some of the best games in Nintendo's history, from classics such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker SY Metroid Prime 2 to nurture classics such as Eternal Darkness: Requiem Sanity SY F-Zero: GX. An important part of the GameCube's special library is unfortunately still trapped in the console to this day, there is no way to play them on modern devices.
Nintendo may not have brought a GameCube title to NSO yet due to the limitations of the Switch hardware. The console may not be strong enough to emulate games from sixth generation systems, and may not have enough internal storage to make the GameCube NSO application usable. Since the Switch 2 is certainly more powerful than the original Switch, there is a greater chance of the GameCube being integrated into NSO on the console. Additionally, Nintendo's next-generation hardware will likely have plenty of internal hard drive space, so saving and downloading GameCube games shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
DS and 3DS games should be available on Switch 2 Via NSO
If Nintendo brings GameCube games to the Switch 2 through NSO, it should also consider bringing Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS games to the service. As underpowered handheld consoles, the DS and 3DS are obviously not hard to copy; Games from both systems can now run on anything with a screen. That being said, since DS and 3DS games use the two screens and touch controls of the consoles, bringing them to a modern platform like the Switch is not easy.
Both the DS and 3DS have hundreds of exclusive games, most of which may not be ported or updated for modern platforms due to their dual-screen nature. The Nintendo DS is a classic home console, LIKE THAT Pokemon Black and White, Dragon Quest 9and Mario + Luigi: Time Partnerswhile the 3DS has its favorite games The Legend of Zelda: A Link in the World, Pushmoand Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In some cases, it may be more trouble than it's worth for Nintendo to bring these games to NSO, but as long as the Switch 2 has a touch screen like the original. lamp then they should be able to run smoothly on the company's next console.
