Key Takeaways
- Lord of Fortune has a nice costume but doesn't have any strong narrative impact or mechanical benefits.
- Veil Jumpers deal more damage to specific enemies and buffs that deal useful critical damage.
- Mourn Watch provides a unique narrative perspective, stacks grief, and increases damage against common enemies.
When creating a Rook in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one of the things you will have to choose is his faction. You have six factions to choose from, and they will dictate your Rook's story, with unique mechanical advantages and dialogue options throughout the game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – All the main characters return
There are a few familiar faces in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
These factions won't make a big difference to the story, so it's okay to choose the one you think is more interesting. However, some make you more connected to the action at hand than others, not to mention that some have better mechanical improvements than others. From a storytelling perspective to a gaming enthusiast, which party is better?
6 Lord of luck
For gold and glory

Taash. |

Specializations |
Saboteur (Rogue), Slayer (Fighter). |
Despite having the best clothes, Lord of Fortune unfortunately got the short end of the stick – especially since you can wear any outfit regardless of the party.
Their faction has little impact on the narrative, and aside from Taash and everyone else involved in their story, only one of your characters, Isabela, represents them. Sure, he's a legacy character, but he's still his, and he doesn't show up much.
The mechanical advantage is not the best. Damage is increased against mercenaries, a rare enemy type in the game, and it's easier to pull off dispels, which is a nice bonus but a condition. If your build revolves around a lot of stunning enemies, that's great. Otherwise, it will not change the game for you.
5 Veil Jumpers
Unlock the past

Veil Ranger (Rogue). |
The Veil Jumpers are already doing better because their group is more prominent in the story. You'll meet them first, and you'll have a few missions with them, although they're not the same as the other factions here. However, the beginning is better.

As for mechanical buffs, they will deal more damage to stunned enemies (repairs and similar). They don't appear often, but they are far more common than mercenaries. They are also some of the toughest enemies, so the damage increase is interesting.
Finally, your critical damage hurts more, as does your weak damage. It's also a situation, but a build that relies heavily on these types of damage will benefit from being a jumper – your rogue might like this one.
4 Watch Mourning
Guardian of the Grand Necropolis

Emmrich. |

Specializations |
Death Summoner (Mage), Reaper (Fighter). |
The Mourn Watch faction is less prominent than Jumpers in terms of narrative, but it still has a few things going for it. Its members are all interesting people, including Emmrich's attractive partner, and his good perspective on necromancy gives him a unique approach compared to all the others in the game.
All the misery you inflict on the enemy will fall, which is another thing you can call a condition, but this time, there is more construction depending on it. Almost every class can cause some kind of affliction, however, so it will be useful at least no matter what.
The last thing mourners do for them is increased damage to demons and spirits, two common enemy types. This will help with many encounters throughout the game.
3 Shadow Dragons
Long live the Resistance

Evoker (Mage). |
Being part of a resistance group focused on freeing slaves and defeating evil spells is very compelling. It's also very convincing when one of the biggest decisions in the game revolves around your city. Regardless of what you decide when the time comes, both options make the story interesting to your characters because it's personal to them.
We also have some legacy characters from this faction, but they are also unrelated to the story.

Something to help you get the “good job, Rook!” you heard
Other than the times mentioned above, your faction won't come out as often, but it's still good for them. Along with that they have increased damage against Venatori, another enemy type that appears frequently, so that's a nice bonus.
Your class-specific resources – rage for fighters, mana for mages, and boost for rogues – spawn faster than usual when you're a Shadow Dragon, which is a nice bonus to have regardless. establishment.
2 Antivan Crow

Spellblade (Mage), Duelist (Rogue). |
Professional Assassin is also an interesting story, although the game is still focused on combat rather than a stealth game where you stab people from behind. The ravens are an interesting group in their own right, with a great supporting cast, and their city is involved in one of the biggest decisions in the game.
They deal extra damage to Antaam, who appear frequently in the game and have low health and armor, so this is a nice bonus. They can carry extra potions, which is useful at first, but it's easy to heal yourself through friends, and you can also carry extra potions through items.
Basically, Antivan Crows are almost tied with Shadow Dragons because Crows are better in some areas while Dragons are better in others. The reason the Crows win is because of the more interesting NPCs.
1 Gray Wardens

Champion (Fighting). |
This is the Age of the Dragon, and it's hard to have a powerful faction like the Gray Wardens here. Although they don't have as big a choice as the previous two, the Wardens generally play a big role in the story, so being one of them makes everything very special.
With this, all bonuses work well. You'll deal more damage to darkspawn, and given that the plot itself revolves around fighting elven gods using the blight to control the world, this extra damage comes in handy. In addition, the creatures fighting the burning make the narrative more interesting for the Gray Warden.
You'll also get a boost to your defense and health, something that's useful for all characters from level 1 to 50, rather than something that's useful at first, like extra potions. Their additional dialogue and additional options for one of the biggest decisions in the game make them more engaging as well.
If you want to have as many custom dialogue options as possible, we recommend Gray Warden Elven Mage. Gray Warden for the reasons above, elves because they have dialogue based on their god's battles, and mage because you can talk about magic from time to time.
