Rumor: The 2022 Open-World RPG Could Be Coming to Nintendo Switch 2
Some evidence that has just surfaced suggests that the open-world ARPG 2022 is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
In early January 2025, LiC returned to Famiboards to share another look at the upcoming device, revealing that they had previously seen the polyethylene (PE) plastic adhesive tape mentioned in the 'the custom that is designed to “stick to the handheld game console.” Shipping data is said to label these pieces of tape as “mouse soles”, a common term used for the bottom part of a computer mouse. The mention of mouse soles in the Switch 2 parts list indicates that the upcoming console will be able to emulate the functionality of a mouse.
LiC found references to two unique model numbers: LG7 and SML7. Game Rant could not find these names in the public database, and suggests that if they are real, they belong to new products that are yet to be released. The data obtained from LiC suggests that both plastic parts have a size of 90 x 90mm. Based on the size of the previously leaked Switch 2, these plates look big enough to cover the back of the new Joy-Cons, and then some. But since they have a square pitch, additional trimming is likely required before they can be applied during assembly – assuming LiC's information is correct.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will not be the first console with a Mouse Controller module
Although in keeping with Nintendo's historical tendency to experiment with mouse-like control methods, this type of technology has already been commercialized. The right controller on the Lenovo Legion GO can also function as a mouse when rotated to the left to form a joystick. Lenovo even provides a round plastic for mounting the monitor in this way and helps it move around the space more efficiently.
Lenovo's 2024 handheld PC also boasts a magnetic rail for easy control, which is another feature that the Switch 2 claims to have. In this regard, Legion GO may offer a glimpse of Nintendo's second look at the hybrid console.
