Death in shonen anime is usually saved for a few major characters during a season. Most of the time, no major characters die at all. This makes sense, given that the target demographic is young men who are being taught the power of friendship, manners and nonchalance. However, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami, almost finds pleasure in killing his characters.

With a series that doesn't shy away from killing off its characters, some deaths are bound to have more of an impact than others. From people who didn't expect to die, to people who had a death flag, but died in a way that made fans agape, here are the most memorable and shocking deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Needless to say: spoilers ahead!
8
Nanami Kento
Nanami's death may not be the most shocking on the list, but it's certainly one of the saddest. He didn't want to continue being a witch, but he left it to a sense of responsibility. During the last moments of his life, he was too tired to think clearly, but he thought about taking a vacation in Malaysia.
His death hastened Yuji's mental deterioration, and the death favorite set a standard for the seriousness of the Culling game.
7
Ryomen Sukuna
Sukuna's death was not shocking at all. As an antagonist, his death at the hands of Yuji is more a question of when than if. However, the actual death was as surprising as the way it was handled. This was mainly because the damage done to Sukuna was completely invisible, but aimed at the connection between her and Megumi's soul.
While the other bosses are slowly bleeding and losing eyesight, it seems that Sukuna immediately grabbed his and became a puddle. Sukuna's final statement about destroying everything Yuji holds dear only brings up his state of grief just one chapter later. There was never a moment where you could feel that Yuji could lose.
A few more chapters might have allowed Akutami to flesh out the climax better, but Sukuna's disembodied nature at the end is still a shocking portrayal of the greatest witch of all time, a very fitting ending. of hedonists like the King of Curses.
6
Junpei
Jujutsu Kaisen has always been dark blue, but being shonen has led fans to believe that death will not be a big part of the series. While Junpei initially seems like a good person driven to evil when he asks Mahito to avenge his tormentors, it seems that he will eventually become a powerful magician. However, Mahito suddenly kills him in front of Yuji.

6 lingering questions we have after Manga Jujutsu Kaisen ended
Jujutsu Kaisen is now over, we still have a few questions.
There were a lot of red herrings that made you think Junpei was going to be a recurring character. Everything from him having a special cursed technique to the opening of Jujutsu Kaisen showing Junpei walking with our players in their Jujutsu High uniforms was done on purpose to make his death look hard. Junpei is the first person Yuji doesn't save after becoming a witch, and his death is the beginning of the concept of JJK.
5
Nobara Kugisaki
Nobara isn't really dead, we see him back in all his glory in the series finale. However, he is still basically dead, not only to Yuji, but also to the fans of Jujutsu Kaisen. Mahito kills him right in front of Yuji after witnessing Nanami's final death, leading Yuji into a dire situation until he recovers with Todo's help.
What makes Nobara's death so painful is that no one expects someone in the main trio to die before the final battle. He didn't even fully fight Mahito, so he turned his attention to Nobara and Yuji. Nobara's death was one of the saddest and deadliest in JJK and it was amazing how it made you hate Mahito even more, just like Yuji.
4
Tsumiki Fushigoro
The reason why Megumi, one of the protagonist trio that follows the story, is considered a witch is because of her sick sister. This power that drives his character is one of the points that fans have been waiting for him to solve.
Tsumiki's corpse survives after being captured by Yorozu, but she dies along with Yorozu during his battle with Sukuna.
But the decision came suddenly, and contrary to expectations. Instead of Tsumiki reuniting with Megumi in the nick of time or showing off her own cursed technique, it is revealed that her body has been overtaken by the reincarnated witch and Sukuna's admirer, Yorozu. Although anticlimactic to some, this death only worsened Megumi's mind, and she eventually became possessed by Sukuna.
3
Yuki
This is where his death becomes controversial. Where everyone had previously participated, the newcomers were also partially offended by disappointment. Although they are still well written, some of the character decisions seem like Gege is done with them and doesn't want to explore their ideas further.
It took all of Yuki's will and concentration and Tengen's full barrier power to stop Yuki's ability from consuming the world.
Yuki is one of them. Although he is a special note like Gojo and Kenjaku, he was recently introduced. Despite this, despite being considered one of the strongest alive, he only fought one battle before being killed. Adding insult to injury is the fact that Gojo's Hollow Purple has a much stronger ability, with Black Hole said to have the ability to destroy the world if Yuki so desires.
Furthermore, the fact that Kenjaku survived with such a powerful skill simply because he happened to have the perfect opposite of it made his defeat even harder to accept.
2
Kenjaku
While Sukuna holds the title of antagonist in the series due to her power, Kenjaku is the mastermind behind all the mishaps the characters experience in the show. From cultivating Mahito to connecting the Curses of Disaster into a plan, and even taking hundreds of years to organize the Culling Games, not to mention creating Yuji as a vessel for of Sukuna, it is not difficult to say that the series would not have existed without it. him.

Many hoped that he would eventually betray Sukuna and end up being the last villain the players had to defeat, but that never happened. Kenjaku didn't survive until Sukuna, and didn't get a proper fight with the main character. He was killed in a sneak attack by Yuta, and his literary character was killed along with his body to the world, leaving fans shocked and disappointed.
1
Goo
Gojo vs. Sukuna, the battle between the strongest witches of today and the strongest witches of the past. This is the biggest battle of all Jujutsu Kaisen, so even those who are not familiar with the series follow the release of new chapters.
Although it was mostly the same, Gojo had a clear advantage. He healed all the damage he took, his healing returned, and he was even able to cast out his Domain extension after hitting Black Flash, which had Sukuna on his last legs. The battle seems over, with Gojo the clear winner. The narrator even says that Gojo won.
Sukuna killed Gojo using a binding vow that allowed him to target the world with his cursed technique, disabling Gojo's Infinity.
And then Gojo was cut in two. Whether or not the surprise was welcome is another debate entirely, but no one can deny that it was one of the most shocking moments in all of anime. The strongest may lose, and may even die in other series, but Gojo's off-screen death after being announced as the winner will be the most controversial decision of Gee.
