The founder of Rockstar explained the reason for canceling the operator

Rockstar Games Co-former Dan Houser explained what happened to one of the most famous deleted projects – Agent.

Rockstar is one of the best game developers out there (even if there are too many of them in the last generation) and, in 26 years, there are only games and projects and not releases. Not counting the 2 seed because it has not been officially announced, the game created by RockStar is, without a doubt, Agent.

Originally mocked all the way in 2007 with a simple sign, the Agent was designed as a global Spy detective that took place during the cold war in the 70s. It was not sad that it did not see the light of day, as the agent did not see, and until now, until now, Rockstar has never spoken.

Rockstar's focus on open-ended gameplay is the nail in Agent's coffin

Yesterday, rockstar game co-former Dan Houser appeared on the Lex Fridman podcast to discuss his career at Rockstar and his future. At one point in the interview, the houser was asked if there were all the games he wanted he could build while he was still at Rockstar, which led to a long-awaited conversation.

Houser said that Rockstar worked around five different leads during their time at the studio, but it was never “combined.” To this day, the houser is still thinking about what could have been, and concluded that Agent did not work because the secret story did not gel in a free way that the player could do what he could do.

I don't know what it is. Because it's not really – we haven't gotten very far with making a good story out of it. – Dan Houser

If the Agent was announced as a cold espionage game, the houser reveals that it is one of the many directions that Rockstar has worked on, because there is also a modern version at the same time. Even with many attempts, Rockstar could not figure out how to tie the “Beat-Beat” story to the universal design that is known.

Although the difficulty of rockstar works as an open game for you, you may ask yourself why you did not just set up a distance once, every conversation with Houser explains that the freedom of the player is emphasized. It's really sad that we don't even seem to be seeing a spy game from Rockstar, it doesn't seem like it was meant to be.
