Legend of Zelda's kingdom of Hyrule is a vast and beautiful land filled with many races. While many races return in multiple games, such as Gorons and Zoras, some races only appear in one or two games.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild surprised many when it brought back The Wind Waker's Rito, updating the bird-like characters to better fit the game's vision of Hyrule. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom brings back the Deku in a bigger role, which they haven't seen since Majora's Mask. With that in mind, anything is possible. Here are 10 Zelda races we want to see again next.
10 Parella
Jellyfish-Like Proto-Zora
In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the Parella were a squid-like race that lived in Lake Florian, serving their dragon god Faron. They do not have the ability of the Zora to live on land and water, not just water.
Parella may need some updating if they are going to fit in with more modern Zelda games, as their design was designed for the old Skyward Sword setting. Perhaps they can be made to match races like the Earth and Sea Zora, perhaps creating some kind of rivalry with the Earth Zora or relationships.
9 Kikwi
Shy little kiwi
Before the Kokiri or Koroks called the vast forests of Hyrule home, the land belonged to the Kikwi in Skyward Sword. Resembling a mix between a kiwi fruit and a kiwi bird, these cute creatures have a naturally shy attitude, trying to disguise themselves as plants when scared. But it doesn't go well.
The Kikwi may not need an upgrade if they return in a future Zelda title, but they do need to share the Lost Woods with the Koroks if they choose to live there. Perhaps there could be some sort of beneficial partnership between the two. If not, they can call another forest in Hyrule home. There are certainly many to choose from.
8 Anouki
People who like to be cold
The Anouki are a strange race with the body of a penguin, the horns of a deer and the appearance of a humanoid. They first appeared in Phantom Hourglass, then returned for the sequel Spirit Tracks. Although friendly, these ice eaters pretend to stay in their own community.
If they do return for a future Zelda title, they will likely need to be updated to match the real human races of Hyrule. Perhaps they could be given a more anthropomorphic look with a heavy winter coat to resemble their original form. This release of the Anouki may live far to the north of Hyrule, in the ice and snow where few races dare to venture.
7 Mogma
These mushrooms are meant to be mined
The Mogma are another race that lived on the Surface in Skyward Sword. Despite the Gorons in the game, the Province of Eldin is inhabited by races like moles. These lurking spirits use their claws to burrow underground in search of rupees and treasure, even at the risk of their own lives.
Mogma may not need any kind of upgrade, but how to build them may change depending on the game. Modern Mogma may roam all over Hyrule in search of shiny treasures, or they may share Death Mountain with the Gorons. Perhaps the two have some sort of mining rivalry, as the Gorons were portrayed as miners in Breath of the Wild and its sequels.
6 Subrosians
Living among Rocks and Lava
In the land of the Holodrum Oracle of Season, there was a secret land hidden underground, called Subrosia. There lived the mysterious race of Subrosians, able to live with lava. They love long baths and dancing.
Depending on the art style of the game the Subrosians returned to, they may or may not need an update. The Subrosians could live deep beneath Hyrule in secret communities unknown to most of the kingdom. There they explored and sat in comfort near the lava, possibly hiding secrets related to the plot of the game.
5 Lamp
Love Locomotive
The Lokomo only appeared in Spirit Tracks, where they aid Link and Zelda in their quest for the Demon King Malladus. Six of the seven Lokomos traveled by mechanical vehicles, while the seventh traveled on foot. Adapting the game where you drive a train, this race is named after a slogan related to trains.
Lokomo can look different depending on the game, but the general look is not suitable for most Zelda games. Lokomo is a fitting title for The Legend of Zelda, where he can be a mechanically inclined spirit, helping Link understand futuristic technology or even improve his equipment.
4 Zone
The morning of the fairy tale
Fans have speculated about what Zonai might look like since Breath of the Wild, only for Tears of the Kingdom to clarify his identity. In this alternate version of Hyrule's history, these goat-like animals founded the kingdom of Hyrule when Rauru married a Hylian named Sonia.
If the Zonai will return, we want to see Hyrule at the height of its reign. While we know a lot about their technology, we don't know much about their race. By the time of the Kingdom Sea, there were only two left. We want to see how they lived in ancient Hyrule and how they interacted with other tribes in the world.
3 Kokiri
The children of the forest
The child-like Kokiri race first appeared in Ocarina of Time, where they lived under the protection of the Great Deku Tree. From The Wind Waker, the Kokiri have all but disappeared, transformed into Koroks by the Great Deku Tree to better survive in the vast Great Sea. Although the Koroks later appeared in Breath of the Wild, the Kokiri did not return with them.
The Kokiri are difficult to distinguish from the other children of Hyrule, so the developers can choose to change them. Otherwise, they could remain just that, remaining a mystery as they settled in one of Hyrule's forests. They will most likely live with the Koroks, as they are both considered children of the Great Deku Tree.
2 Minish
The hidden little people among us
The Minish, also known as the Picori, is a small race no bigger than a child's thumb. Their only appearance was in the Minish Cap, where they lived in forests, mountains and cities, hidden where no one would notice them. It is said that only good children can see the Minish.
A race similar to the Minish appeared at the beginning of Breath of the Wild, although they did not appear in the finished game or the sequel. In the new game, the Minish can live a secret life, hidden throughout Hyrule, much like the Koroks. They may appear if you solve puzzles or look in the right places, possibly offering some sort of collectible to find them.
1 Twili
Return of the Twilight Realm
The Twili appeared in one game – Twilight Princess – but fans have been begging for their return ever since. When Midna breaks Twilight's mirror at the end of the game, we begin to pray that she will get it back and visit the Twilight Realm again. So far, we haven't had that chance.
The return of the Twili means a return to the Twilight Realm. Perhaps this time we can fully explore the home of the Twili, getting to know its inhabitants and their environment. While neither Midna nor Zant need to return, we'd love to see someone like them, with their signature sarcastic and playful nature.
