Jelena Dokic has hit back at “body shaming” trolls in an Instagram post announcing her recent dramatic weight loss.

The 41-year-old speaks very openly about the problems she has faced throughout her life, including mental health issues, weight problems and dealing with online bullying.

The former world number 4 and Wimbledon semi-finalist during her playing days, switched to commentary after her retirement and was often the target of vicious harassment because of her weight.

Dokic announced that she had lost 20 kilograms after becoming concerned about her family’s health history, sending a blunt message to anyone who tried to accuse her of being embarrassed.

“It’s not good when you gain weight and it’s not good when you lose weight. Apparently it’s not good when you wear a size 36, 44 or 54,” Dokic wrote in the Instagram post published on Monday to her 218,000 followers.

“So you all know that I am very open and honest.

“Whether I’m gaining weight, losing weight, depressed, feeling great, going through good times or bad times, I’m always honest about both sides.

“So I thought I’d just share a quick post about my recent weight loss, since a few people have been writing to me and leaving comments.

“So I lost 20 kilos from my peak weight last year.

“I had some health issues but also just wanted to get healthier and fitter, and when I turned 40 last year I really started to think about how common diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems were in my family.

“In addition, my workload increased dramatically and I needed to be physically and mentally fitter and have more energy.

“I lacked the mental energy to keep up. I had to eat healthier.”

“So I didn’t focus so much on my weight, but just on making better choices to feel my best.

“That’s how I started losing weight.”

While Dokic previously faced heartless ridicule for her weight gain, she surprisingly admitted that she has since come under criticism for her weight loss and lifestyle.

“Now that some people have already jumped on the bandwagon of judging and shaming me for my weight loss, saying that I have succumbed to ‘diet culture’ and no longer represent overweight people, please do not say anything like that,” she continued.

“Getting healthier and doing what’s best for me has nothing to do with it, and I have always and will always advocate for both size zeros and size 20s, and especially women.

“It has always been about not judging, shaming and bullying people regardless of their weight and size, but instead highlighting that it is kindness that matters, not our size.

“Even though I’ve lost 20 kilos, nothing changes.

“I want people to continue to judge me and others based on whether we are nice and good people.

“I will always be proud of myself and will not hide or be ashamed, no matter what size I am.

“And I will always be against body shaming and judging people based on their size and weight, whether I gain or lose a few pounds or drop a dress size.

“Always against body shaming, no matter what.”

The sensational post has already received over 43,000 likes and almost 3,000 comments.

Many people were touched by Dokic’s message.

“You are the most positive, strongest woman,” read one comment.

“Oh Jelena Dokic, no matter what you or we do in this life, people will judge me and I’m sick of it!! Keep going, keep going,” wrote another.

“The number on the scale or on the clothing label does not define a person,” read another comment.

“Bye Jelena, don’t listen to the noise, you’ll never please everyone. Just keep up the great work, I love your comments,” said another.

“Looks really great and your comments hit the nail on the head!” wrote another.
