James Corden stood up for his fellow passengers on a flight from Portugal to London over the weekend after a “chaotic” day of travel with British Airways.

A woman named Vanessa told Metro about the former Late Late Show The 45-year-old host was the voice of reason for everyone else on board as he confronted staff about the unacceptable experience, Page Six reports.

Vanessa told the outlet that after takeoff, the plane circled below cruising altitude for about 45 minutes before an automated announcement announced an emergency landing.

“It went something like this: ‘Gather your things as best you can, take off your shoes, and when asked to do so by the flight crew, please assume the safety position, and when we land, if possible, find the nearest emergency exit and exit the aircraft,'” Vanessa recalls.

But shortly thereafter, “the aircraft staff assured the passengers that they no longer had to assume the orthotic position.”

“Basically, what happened was that the flaps on the plane’s wings, which were supposed to extend in the air, wouldn’t extend. That meant they couldn’t retract on landing,” she explained.

The plane, which took off from Faro, eventually landed in Lisbon.

After landing, all passengers were detained on the tarmac for three hours before the aircraft was declared unairworthy.

Despite the exciting day of travel, Vanessa said Corden tried to lighten everyone’s mood with laughter and jokes.

“He walked up and down the aisles, talking to people and letting everyone take a selfie with him,” she said.

“He was just really nice. He had every right to sit in his seat and sulk like we all would have, but he didn’t,” Vanessa added.

After the passengers were finally allowed to leave the plane, the British star acted as a spokesperson for the group and respectfully confronted the flight crew about how they handled the situation.

“We are in the terminal and there was no member of the [British Airways] “There were no staff to be found,” she recalls. “And they put us in immigration queues. And there was simply no one there to tell us what was going on.”

According to Vanessa, it was the comedian who told the flight crew that they were in the wrong place – and that they immediately directed everyone to the right area.

However, the group was then informed that only Club Flyers or Gold Flyers would receive free hotel rooms for the night. Corden, who was entitled to the free room, again rushed to the aid of his fellow travelers.

“James was a club flyer and he stood there and said, ‘What about all these people with all these kids?’ as if to say this is not acceptable. This is not right,” Vanessa recalled.

It’s unclear whether his pleas had any effect, but when the passengers arrived at the airport the next day, they were greeted by an equally charming version of Corden.

“We were told to show up at 9:30 a.m. for a flight that was actually delayed again by over two hours, and James Corden was standing in the same line as everyone else, doing the same things as everyone else,” she said.

“I saw him let women and children go ahead,” Vanessa continued. “He was a really nice guy both times.”

Although Vanessa had only good things to say about the comedian, he has been criticized several times in the past for allegedly rude behavior.

In April 2023, one of Corden’s former television directors called him one of the “most difficult” and “obnoxious” people he had ever worked with.

Almost six months earlier, Mel B had also called the former late-night host Hollywood’s “biggest asshole” when asked to list the worst celebrities she had ever met.

“I think you always have to be nice to the people you work with, whether it’s in production, the cameramen, the sound or the lighting,” the former Spice Girl said of the comedian.

“We all work for the same thing, so you should always be nice, and he wasn’t very nice.”
