The most recent Harley Quinn comic has caused quite a stink, and I mean that literally and figuratively because I'm quite the connoisseur of words. The upcoming April Fool's issue, Harley Quinn Fartacular: Silent Butt Deadly, is a steamy, steamy comic where Harley smokes a lot. As if this is the only point.
It quickly became a sensation within days of its release. In a sense, this is asking for trouble. Although many actors have jokes for April Fool's Day, and Harley lends herself to various pranks, it is rare to hear about them beforehand. Everyone on the Internet thinks the worst about everyone (and is often proven to be right), so the top theory is that someone – or several people – are in the creative and approval process. just love a little. ALSO a lot.
Comic books need a trick these days
This makes it difficult to talk. If you say that the premise sounds interesting and fits Harley's slapstick, heavy-handed humor, you might be labeled as another person who likes to overdose. But go too far with your criticism, as many have done (very well) and you seem to be overreacting.
Although it's still early days for promoting April Fool's comics, the strategy may already be paying off. Comics rarely go viral, especially the future. While there are many movies, TV shows, and video games based on superheroes, comic book sales are on the decline. Sales of new issues in 2023 were down 73 percent from 2022 figures, and more than half of comic book stores reported lower sales last year than in 2023.
And if you want to improve big trade, fart comics will certainly help. now that's it a joke for you.
I don't think Silent Butt Deadly will be the savior of comics, nor will it be the pinnacle of the art form. It's probably going to be a silly little story with a lot of obvious humor. It's a Harley Quinn April Fool's problem – we should be careful. But as interest in this grows, so does interest in comic books in general. It may get more foot traffic and increase sales of other issues by proxy. Every little bit helps
This comic fits Harley Quinn
His first foray into comic books wasn't through superheroes, though. My grandparents had an annual tradition of The Beano, back in the '70s. I dug them out of a can when I was about eight years old and ate them. From then on, every year until I left home, I got the last Beano every year. I have been a weekly columnist for The Beano for ten years. I still make fun of The Dandy, because they feel like 'the other team'.
Silent Butt Deadly feels less like a superhero concept and more like the kind of thing you'd find in The Beano. So, while many comic fans find it inappropriate for the medium, with a wider lens it feels right at home. The scratch and sniff gimmick is also the kind of clever idea the media needs (you can't sniff digital files) and the reality is that most scratch and sniff stuff is really smelly and stinky. It's not the first time Harley comics have touched and blown.
Again, the comics don't help themselves. While it's possible to associate Silent Butt Deadly with its more funky British comic history, the promotional blurb backs it up by accusing it of being too fan-fanatic for… not so happy reasons. 'If you're kinky, this comic isn't for you (and that's okay!…even if I judge you!)' it reads, which sounds more like a rejection of kink than a comic book. Even if the rest is a paragraph full of sentences that fit the topic, the label that it's okay if you don't get involved but makes you a vanilla square doesn't appreciate it.
I don't buy many comics these days. Like many online hypocrites, I am part of the problem. I find it strange that Silent Butt Deadly could bring me back to physical problems, but the connection to the comics I grew up with, the gimmick nature of it, and the potential to become one of the classics. especially. issues forbidden in recent history offer a very tempting offer.
