Anwar Gargash from the United Arab Emirates calls for a peaceful solution to the “monstrous” violence in the Gaza Strip

DUBAI: Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the President of the United Arab Emirates, says the violence in Gaza has reached “monstrous proportions” and called on the international community to find a peaceful solution to the carnage.

Speaking on the final day of the Arab Media Forum in Dubai on Wednesday, Gargash expressed his dismay at the level of violence in the Gaza Strip.

“The attacks on innocents have reached monstrous proportions. We have seen wars in Palestine before, but never on such a monstrous level,” he said. “The region cannot tolerate further escalations.”

Gargash reiterated that neighboring Arab countries support the Palestinian cause.

“We believe in the cause, our conscience simply does not allow us to give up our support for Palestine, especially in the face of the ugliness we see coming out of Gaza today and most recently from Rafah.

“The current right-wing, criminal government in Israel does not correspond to Jewish values.”

Gargash stressed the UAE’s continued support for Gaza and said the displacement of Palestinians from “place to place” must end.

“Israel is undermining itself with its current policies and actions. We support the establishment of a Palestinian state. We need a clear roadmap to ensure its independent establishment. If both sides want to live in peace, this is the only way.”

He mentioned an ongoing Arab initiative to promote peace and warned that states must take control of the situation to prevent further chaos.

“Although the global conscience has awakened, we cannot wait for the world,” he noted. “Active steps and initiatives must be taken now, otherwise this will remain a pipe dream.”

During a panel discussion, the diplomat from the Emirates also accused the international community of double standards.

“Look at the different approaches between Ukraine and Palestine. Remember that both are still at war. The old approaches must go, the current system no longer works and no longer solves problems. We must find new ways and cooperation to achieve a better result.”

He called on Arab states to unite and work together beyond politics, adding that the UAE was committed to strengthening regional ties and improving relations with Iran.

“Over the past 12 to 15 years, we have seen all the events in the Arab world give way to radical ideologies, the emergence of militias, the filling of a power vacuum by external influences, and the emergence of ideologies that are opposed to healthy nationalism.

“We continue to address these issues. We need better cooperation between the Arab states, a willingness to change old, sick modules for the common good of the region.”
