Saudi Arabia’s pharma, medical device factories surge to 206 with $2.6bn investments

RIYADH: Savvy Games Group, owned by the Public Investment Fund, has signed an agreement with international gaming company Xsolla to build an interactive entertainment center in Riyadh.

Focusing on job creation, game development and publishing, the partnership aims to create 3,600 video game industry jobs in Saudi Arabia by 2030. This initiative supports the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and is expected to create regional and global economic opportunities for developers.

As part of the agreement, Xsolla will establish a regional headquarters in Riyadh, providing product development, technology, customer support, and business development services to help developers and publishers enjoy their projects in the Middle East.

The partnership will also launch key initiatives, including the Xsolla Game Development Academy, Incubator, and Accelerator program. These initiatives are designed to nurture talent, support local and international game development studios, and position Saudi Arabia as a global hub for the industry.

“This partnership with Xsolla represents an important step in our mission to elevate the gaming and esports scene in Saudi Arabia to global prominence,” said Savvy Games Group CEO Brian Ward. .

The partnership will also focus on hosting industry-leading gaming events, funding development projects and connecting local studios with international investors.

This partnership comes after the recent boom in esports in Saudi Arabia, highlighted by the country's first Esports World Cup, which won 62 prizes, 5 million dollars.

It is in line with the National Strategy of Games and Esports of the State, which aims to create jobs and contribute 13 billion dollars to the gross domestic product of the country.

Savvy Games Group also announced a separate deal with Niantic Inc., a global leader in augmented reality and location-based games.

Savvy will support Niantic's expansion into the MENA region, particularly Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt.

This partnership focuses on inspiring people to play with their communities through live events and local content in the region.

Savvy will also assist Niantic in setting up regional initiatives, including recruiting local talent and setting up offices, to accelerate Niantic's growth and increase engagement among mobile player in the Middle East.
