Prince William has attended the society wedding of the year, which will bring together the celebrities of the British aristocracy in the city of Chester in the north-west of England.

The future king was spotted in a cutaway outside Chester Cathedral on Friday as he prepared to attend Hugh Grosvenor’s wedding to Olivia Henson.

Grosvenor, also known as the Duke of Westminster, is said to have a net worth of a whopping $20 billion and is the richest man under 40 in Britain.

The Duke is godfather to both Prince George and Prince Harry’s son Archie, but Harry and Meghan were not in attendance.

William was given the honor of serving as usher at the lavish ceremony, which was attended by 400 guests.

Princess Eugenie was seen entering the chapel in a long-sleeved green dress and matching hat, while the groom arrived at the cathedral in a forest green Land Rover, waving to the cheering crowd.

Princess Kate and King Charles were both invited to the wedding, but it is said that they cancelled due to health reasons.

Hours before the scheduled start time, hundreds of well-wishers lined the streets, while dozens of police cars and officers patrolled the streets, creating an atmosphere not unlike that of a real royal wedding.

The Duke of Westminster spared no expense on his wedding and completely transformed the city in the run-up to the big day.

The private reception will take place over the next few hours at the Duke’s sprawling 10,872-acre family estate, Eaton Hall, less than 15 minutes’ drive from Chester city centre.

It is expected that a second day of celebration will take place at the estate on Saturday.

The day before the eagerly awaited wedding, Chester was a hive of activity: barricades were erected, streets were closed, workmen brought flowers and other decorations to the venue – and even painters decorated the public telephone boxes.

The Duke has also reportedly arranged and paid for the planting of 100,000 flowers around the city, which will later be donated to charity.

Embarrassing call before Prince Harry’s conspicuous absence

Earlier this week, details emerged about the circumstances that led to Harry’s absence from his long-time friend’s wedding after reports emerged that he was not on the guest list.

Both Harry and William grew up with Hugh – or “Hughie” as he is known to his inner circle – and he is even the godfather to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Prince Archie.

However, since the ceremony took place today, Harry and Meghan were at home in California, while William had the honor of acting as an usher at the ceremony.

Kate, Princess of Wales, did not attend due to her ongoing cancer treatment.

There are conflicting reports as to whether it was Harry or Hugh who ultimately decided that he should not be there for the big day, but according to the British JustIt was the result of a telephone conversation in which both parties reached a “civilized agreement.”

“Harry was invited but then agreed to stay away,” a source told the publication.

“The Duke’s diplomacy then cleared the way for William to take on the role of usher during Friday’s ceremony – a task that would have been more than uncomfortable if he had had to lead Harry to his pew, although he might have enjoyed telling him where to go.”

When Harry’s impending dropout from school was first reported last year, a friend of the feuding brothers described the situation as “incredibly sad.”

“It is incredibly sad that it has come to this. Hugh is one of the few close friends of William and Harry who maintains a strong bond and a channel of communication with both of them,” the source told the Just.

“He wishes they could get together and make things right, but he realizes that probably won’t happen before the wedding. He didn’t want anything to overshadow the day, especially for Olivia, and he doesn’t want any embarrassment.”
