Pokemon X/Y Should Get DLC, Game Freak Hack Revealed

Key Takeaways

  • In the wake of the massive Game Freak hack, Nintendo scrapped plans for Pokemon X/Y DLC.
  • We don't know what these two expansions could have been, but maybe they brought us to South Kalos.

A lot of threads were left hanging after Pokemon X/Y — who was the ghost girl in Lumiose City? What is behind closed doors at the power plant? Since we haven't returned to Kalos yet, these questions remain, but it seems Game Freak plans to return to the region with two DLC packs until they're gone.

What's next for Nintendo after the Pokemon explosion?

Nintendo has been hit with legal action in cases like this, and Pokemon seems to be the biggest blow.

This discovery was made by leaker Pory who is still investigating the massive Game Freak hack that was leaked online over the weekend. It's not clear what the DLC will include, but perhaps it will unravel more of Zygarde's story and take us back to the long-ago South of Kalos.

There is certainly some weight to this idea as yesterday's leak also revealed that Game Freak has scrapped plans for the South Kalos portion of the map. Maybe the area was cut for use in future DLC that never saw the light of day. We don't know yet, but Pory just made it to the Pokemon X/Y 30GB staff folder in the leak that includes art and concept assets, so maybe we'll see more soon.

Past leaks have revealed that the sequel to Pokemon X/Y has also been canceled

The lowest gen Pokemon just can't catch a break. Four years ago, it was leaked that a sequel – or at least, an updated version a la Platinum and Emerald – was once planned for Pokemon X / Y.

Fans speculated at the time that the new game would be called 'Pokemon Z', focusing on the popular Zygarde. After all, it appeared in the next game, Sun & Moon. The theory goes that instead of canceling all of their work, Game Freak brought Zygarde's story from the canceled game into the next generation.

Either way, we're finally returning to Kalos after more than a decade with Pokemon Legends: ZA, so in a roundabout way, Pokemon Z is finally happening.
