Only Arceus knows why people turn away in horror from the real Mimikyu.
Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy type that first appeared in Pokémon Sun & Moon, a seventh generation Pokémon. A small ghost appears under a worn cloth that looks like a Pikachu, suggesting it's cunning.
Many of Mimikyu's Pokédex entries talk about how terrifying his true form is, and the need for the cloak to protect others. “Its true form is unknown. An expert who saw what was under his cloak was overwhelmed with terror and died of shock,” said Mimikyu's entry in Pokémon Sun. “Storm revealed what was hidden under this Pokémon's cloak to a passing trainer, who went home and died that night,” Mimikyu's entry in Pokémon Ultra Moon said.
Other Pokédex entries aren't quite as scary, but instead suggest that Mimikyu wears a mask to try and avoid threatening others in order to befriend them. For an authoritative encyclopedia that should provide trainers with knowledge of the world's Pokémon, the Pokédex tends toward speculation and myth.
The 'real' Mimikyu
The ongoing Game Freak hack continues to leak almost daily, and concept art featuring Mimikyu is the latest in the list of announcements. The most interesting part of this leak (included above from Centro Leaks) is that we will see the 'scary' face that Mimikyu has been hiding all this time.
It's not quite as creepy as the Pokédex suggests, with the actual Mimikyu resembling a little ghostly energy. It's unknown why any trainer or Pokémon recoil in horror from Mimikyu, as it resembles a Diglett without a nose. Now don't get me wrong, a group of Digletts running around the place can be a terrifying ordeal, but Mimikyu doesn't seem like that type of act.
The fear may be due to Mimikyu's power, but the Pokémon is not yet a high-level fighter despite its powerful abilities that allow it to roam freely. Sociologists in the world of Pokémon need to look at the bulging eyes of their people. As for the people in the world, they seem to think Mimikyu is cute.
Pokemon
Pokemon has entertained both children and adults for generations. Whether it's popular video games, anime series and movies, trading cards, or more, there's something for the beginner trainer hoping to catch them all.
