Palace insiders reveal what’s really happening with Kate’s recovery

New details have surfaced about the Princess of Wales’ treatment for cancer following suggestions that she may be returning to work behind palace doors.

It was revealed earlier this week that Kate, who has been out of action for the majority of the year so far following her diagnosis, was well enough to be briefed on the findings of her early years task-force, and had been “kept up-to-date” on its progress throughout.

The Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood’s executive director, Christian Guy, also said that she was “excited” by the campaign and that the initiative was “rolling on as [Kate] recovers”.

The update – which provided a very rare insight into how the princess was faring following her cancer announcement in March – was seen as a positive sign by many, and inevitably sparked speculation about the timeline of her official return to work.

However, the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden reports that Kate’s friends have indicated it’s unlikely that she will be seen again “until the autumn”, which runs from September until November in the UK, adding that even that will “only” happen “if she has recovered fully”.

“No one wants to put any pressure on Catherine,” a royal source told Eden.

“The only thing that matters at the moment is her getting better. She has been through an ordeal this year … It’s a reflection of Her Royal Highness’s importance to the future of the monarchy that she has been given as much time as she needs.”

Earlier this week, and in the wake of the update about her briefing on the Early Years report, Kensington Palace released a similarly cautious statement to The Sun.

“This should not be seen as the Princess of Wales returning to work,” the spokesman cautioned.

“The work of the prince and princess’s projects are always on. That is no different at The Centre for Early Childhood Over the past five months there has been a huge deal of progress.

“However, early childhood is a huge priority for the Princess of Wales.

“She has been kept fully up to date throughout the process and the development of the task force’s work and she has seen the report.”

In March, Kate revealed the shocking details of her private health battle, revealing that her diagnosis had come as a “huge shock” and that she was now undergoing “preventive chemotherapy.”

“We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment,” she said in her video statement.

“My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.”
