A low-cost airline has expanded its services to this thriving Asian destination, not only reaching more Australians but also ensuring competitive prices.

Vietnam continues to grow in popularity and, in response to strong demand, Vietjet has expanded its connections to and from Australia.

The airline’s inaugural flight from Hanoi to Melbourne landed at Melbourne Airport on Tuesday, marking the airline’s sixth connection between the two countries.

The route between the two cities operates every Tuesday and Saturday, and passengers in Sydney are not left out either, as a flight to Hanoi departs from Sydney Airport today.

If you really want to try the hotpot, you can do so with an economy ticket for just $199 until June 10. The ticket also includes 20 kg of checked baggage and a hot meal on board.

In the meantime, from now until June 14, there is a 50 percent discount for those willing to treat themselves to Business Class (with promo code SBJUNE50). It includes access to the Business Lounge, hot and fresh meals throughout the flight and up to 60 kg of checked baggage, as well as a golf set, private cabin and 180-degree flat bed seats.

Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh, who was in Melbourne on Tuesday for the maiden flight from Hanoi, said: “Since Vietjet’s first flight to Australia in April 2023, we have continuously expanded our network connecting Australia’s five largest cities: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide with Ho Chi Minh City.”

“The opening of the Melbourne-Hanoi route today is further evidence of our commitment to development by continuing to expand our network and provide high quality services between Australia and Vietnam to meet the demand of locals and tourists.”

Mr Binh said the new route will help Vietjet further strengthen its position in the Australian market.

“We are proud to launch this new route and hope to give tourists in Victoria the opportunity to explore Vietnam and all destinations in our network of 168 routes in Vietnam and internationally.”

Melbourne Airport’s aviation chief Jim Parashos said the growth of the Vietnamese market had been one of the bright spots of the pandemic.

“The tremendous growth in the Vietnamese market has been made possible by new air transport agreements negotiated by the Vietnamese government that have provided capacity beyond demand,” he said.

“Increased competition and capacity in the market will bring benefits to passengers in the form of cheaper fares, but will also provide exporters with access to high-value-added markets.”

He said Vietnam was one of the fastest growing economies in the region and an important trading partner for Australia.

“Here at Melbourne Airport, Vietnam is one of our top ten export markets. In the last twelve months, almost three million tonnes of local produce have been loaded onto aircraft.”

“VietJet’s Hanoi service complements the current service of five weekly flights to Ho Chi Minh City and offers Victoria residents new connections to other countries as well as other Asian destinations.

“We know there will be two-way demand for this service. Vietnam is one of our top ten overseas destinations, while the inbound market is supported by strong demand from trade, business and leisure.”
