A mother claimed her daughter felt “intimidated” when model and influencer Rachael Finch filmed herself running behind her daughter during a school cross-country race.

The former Miss Universe Australia, who frequently shares updates on her family life on social media, faced intense criticism online after posting a video of herself jogging behind her eight-year-old daughter Violet and shouting words of encouragement to her during the school event.

In the video, which Finch titled “Crazy Cam,” the 35-year-old can be heard encouraging her daughter to “take a breath” and say “go, go, go” as she runs along the track.

“Watch out for the rocks… That’s it, Violet, well done,” she added.

The clip, now archived from Finch’s Instagram stories and shared by Outspoken the Podcast on social media sparked criticism online and led many to question why Finch was taking part in the race.

A mother whose daughter competed in the race reportedly claimed that Finch’s behavior affected her daughter’s performance.

“My daughter was walking right behind her. She was too scared to pass her because the mother was screaming and getting in her way,” she reportedly wrote online.

Podcast hosts Amy, Sophie and Kate Taeuber first discussed Finch’s cross-country video in an episode last week.

“At first I just thought, ‘Oh, she’s just one of those supportive parents,'” the hosts said.

“But that was a whole different level! I don’t understand how this school could let her run after her child. That would have been very discouraging for the other children, wouldn’t it?”

Before the race, Finch shared another video on Instagram in which she expressed that she was probably “more nervous than Violet.”

“I run to the first checkpoint and immediately throw up! I have the same feelings as when I used to do this,” she said.

Finch later announced that Violet placed 12th out of 100 girls, achieving her “best time and best performance.”

The model later responded to the criticism and called out those who wanted to attack her for encouraging her daughter.

“Just a quick message to anyone else who wants to criticize me or attack me personally because I want to support, encourage and motivate my child to be the very best she can be,” she said in a video on Instagram.

“A couple of things: Just check your facts once and check again in about eight years when Violet is grown to see the progress.”
