Hunter x Hunter 405 is striking, as were the previous chapters. In HxH 405, the story moves away from the story of the Kakin Princes and Kurapika, and goes back to the story of the Mafia War and the Phantom Troupe.

This chapter sees the return of fan favorite character, Hisoka, as his involvement in this arc only grows. The setup for things to come is huge.

The real Hisoka is back

The previously seen Hisoka was Bonolenov

Hunter x Hunter 405 opens with a poker game and announces the return of the long-awaited character, Hisoka. Earlier in HxHfans see what they believe to be Hisoka, Xi-Yu members see Zakuro and Lynch. However, that Hisoka was a fake, meaning that Hisoka had been seen for the first time in a long time.

This chapter shows Hisoka's thoughts. It was revealed that Hisoka had no interest in fighting the Chimera Ants, despite their power. He was also not interested in Halkenburg's ability, knowing that it was a group ability and not something he could fight 1 vs 1. Hisoka also stated that he was not interested in fighting the group or he is not human, regardless of his power. Hisoka wants to be able to destroy his enemies one by one.

After that, fans saw another Hisoka after the first Hisoka. It was not the real Hisoka, but Bonolenov, a lowly member of the Spiders who had renamed himself using his Nen ability, Metamorphosis, following Chrollo's orders. The metamorphosis works by allowing Bonolenov to transform into the person he is talking to, and he can maintain this form as long as he is face to face with that person. Bonolenov also believes that he can change the shorter time for people who are shorter than him.

Chrollo gave Bonolenov this dangerous mission to give the mafia family the feeling of keeping the balance with the Black Whale. If the mafia family thinks they have Hisoka under control, they won't have a problem with the Phantom Troupe walking around. This was seen in the previous chapter when Xi-Yu picked up the fake Hisoka. But, something goes wrong, when Lynch asks Bonolenov the truth, a woman with Nen ability who squeezes her fists and asks Bonolenov to answer the truth if she is Hisoka, to which he answers no. That's why Bonolenov killed him, because he knew too much. But he kept Zakuro alive, as he needed.

At this point, Bonolenov changed his form from Hisoka, to the Owl, one of the Shadow Beasts that appeared in the Yorknew arc at the time.

Chrollo's hunt for powerful Nen abilities

This Nen ability will kill Hisoka for good

In Hunter x Hunter 405, Bonolenov seems concerned about Chrollo's state of mind after the deaths of Shalnark and Kortopi. Chrollo asked him to change into Hisoka, and if he wanted to see Hisoka, he would change into someone else, and the most important thing was not to fight him. Bonolenov was more than willing not to fight Hisoka, because he would be in a lot of trouble.

Bonolenov, however, revealed that Chrollo didn't bring it up during the meeting, because he probably wanted to take care of Hisoka alone. Bonolenov prefers Nobunaga and his group to rule Hisoka over Chrollo's kingdom.

It is revealed that Chrollo is actually looking for something in this Black Whale that will give him the power to kill Hisoka for good. This treasure in question actually refers to Nen's skill that he wants to steal with Skill Hunter. This man was killed by the Spiders in revenge 10 years ago. Chrollo is just wondering how people are thinking of believing that this guy is a good person and everything the media is saying about him.

The Phantom Troupe and the Heil-Ly

In HxH 404, the last panel showed Nobunaga with his group, which included Feitan and Phinks. They stopped their plan to go directly to Heil-Ly's hideout and instead wanted to go ask questions of the other mafia families. In HxH 405, fans see them doing it. Nobunaga meets Keni Wang and Tajao, the underboss and deputy of the Cha-R family. Nobunaga asks them about the leaders of the Heil-Ly and how they work as a group. Heil-Ly was taken over by the new leader, Morena, after the death of the previous one. Wang admits that they don't know Morena well enough to know his true intentions in everything that happens because, unlike the other 2 mafia families, Heil-Ly kills many innocent civilians.

Nobunaga and his group know that Heil-Ly wants to destroy everything, which includes everyone on this ship and the Kakin itself. They also conclude that they gain more power by killing people.

As the chapter ends, Tajao leads Nobunaga's group to a previously sealed door – one that they said they would let them use when they really worked together. This door is a passage between the different levels of the Black Whale.
