Luma Island: How to upgrade equipment
There are plenty of tools on Luma Island to help you do everything you need, but they need to be updated when you enter a new area.
How to get a goat
Before you can get a goat, and then goat milk, you need to buy the schematics for the goat shelter in the art shop next to Balthazar's shop. It costs 10,000 gold coins, so it may take a while to get it Luma island. Once you have the schematic, you need to build the farm house. You will need the following tools for this:
- 20 Mountains
- 25 Fern Leaves
- Five copper bars
- 10 Moonstone Bars
The Mountain Stone and the Moonstone can only be found when you reach the Mountain, so you need to unlock it before you finish building the Goat Shed. Mountain Planks can be crafted from the Saw Mill with Mountain Wood, but to get enough Moonstone Ore for the Bars you need to enter the Mountain Cave. To find it, just turn left and follow the road when you first enter the Mountain.
After building the house, you need to buy goats from the Farm Shop in town. They cost 5000 gold coins each, and you can place two goats in the shelter. Just remember to build a fence around their shelter to keep them out.
How to get goat milk
You can get goat milk by feeding goats in hay once a day. You can get hay by chopping all the grass with the ax, and you can throw it on the ground for your Goat to eat by using the R key.
To make your life easier, you can also invest in a Trough and fill it with hay so that the Goats will always have something to eat even when you are not around. This will also save you the effort of having to throw them Hay once a day. You can get the schematic for the Trough from the Drawing Shop, and it costs 10,000 gold coins. Unlike the Goat Shed, however, the cost of materials to build it is very low:
- Five Farm Wood
- A copper bar
- 50 Hay
Goats are also useful for repelling foxes Luma island. Foxes start to appear when you get chickens on your farm, and they force the chickens to hide in their coop – meaning they don't lay eggs or kill the beetles that are chasing the plants. You can usually get the foxes out of the way by chasing them, and they will run away during the day, but they show up again every morning. Therefore, having a goat around to deal with them saves a lot of time and protects the chickens.
