Harley Reid apparently cost himself the AFL Rising Star Award with a dangerous tackle on Saturday.

The young star of the West Coast Eagles gave it his all in the first half against St. Kilda in front of his home fans.

But the Saints made the change in the third quarter and gave him a rough day with Darcy Wilson.

Midway through the third quarter, Reid’s emotions seemed to get the better of him as he wrapped his arms around Wilson and tackled him to the ground.

The force of the tackle caused Wilson’s head to hit the turf at Optus Stadium and he suffered minor pain before getting back to his feet.

He eventually came off the field and was examined by the Saints medical staff before taking his place on the court to begin the fourth quarter.

“That’s a tackle we need to take out of the game,” David King told Fox Footy.

“That’s the noose, the head falls to the ground, that’s everything we don’t want.

“If it is (a ban), then that is the rising star.

“This is a huge story. If this turns into a massive suspension, I think the Rising Star favorite is in for a lot of pain.”

Will Schofield added: “It will be suspended, I think there is no doubt about that.”

Following Reid’s tackle, betting markets for the Rising Star award were suspended.

Football fans were convinced that Reid’s tackle would result in the referee banning the young man from playing.

One wrote: “Yes, he’ll get weeks for that.”

A second added: “Bye Harley, you can go home and enjoy a lovely week in Melbourne.”

A third wrote: “It’s a week at least. Shouldn’t be acquitted on appeal. That’s exactly what we’re told the AFL doesn’t want from tackles.”

Some fans were not convinced and said that the MRO could pull a rabbit out of the hat and not even impose a ban on the young player.

“Didn’t look good. Player doesn’t have a concussion so who knows what MRO will do. Maybe flip a coin,” wrote one fan.
