Hamish and Andy banned for life from Olympic village

Andy Lee has announced that he and Hamish Blake have been banned for life from entering the Olympic Village.

The comedian said he had been warned “never talk about it”, but threw caution to the wind during an interview with Triple M's. Rush Hour With Leisel Jones, Liam & Dobbo on Tuesday afternoon.

Andy explained that they rejected the ban from the IOC (International Olympic Committee) after the incident during the games in London in 2012.

“Hamish and I were honored to speak to the (Australian) Olympians before they started,” Andy said.

“There's a lot of application and security you have to go through to get into the Olympic village … and someone filled out the form and put my date of birth as the date that day (in 2012).”

Despite the fact that this was clearly a religious error, the authorities refused to allow Andy to enter the city on the day of the speech.

Finally, a quick-thinking Aussie comes to his rescue.

“I won't say who, but someone on the team said, 'Hey, I can bring a suit. You look like one of the high jumpers,'” Andy said.

“All of a sudden I went over someone else's (pass) and we went in, which was obviously a big security breach at a time when he was trying to prove that the defense was tight.”

Hamish and Andy gave their speeches and “had a ball” mingling with all the athletes.

But 90 minutes later, the Olympic defense team realized they had been cheated.

“They dragged us out and put us in different rooms and there was a lot of interrogation,” Andy told the Triple M hosts.

“We just kept our mouths shut, and then the chief of security came in.”

In a stroke of luck, the head of security turned out to be an Aussie fella.

He said: 'Hamish and Andy, what are you doing here?' We explained, and he explained more,” said the comedian.

The Australian Olympic team was penalized for Hamish and Andy's actions, with some of their 'visitor passes' revoked.

“That's why I wasn't proud of what happened,” said Andy. “I hate the fact that some people can't.”

The IOC has also made it clear to the Aussie larrikins that they are not welcome in the Olympic cities…

“We had to accept being banned for life,” said Andy.

After hearing the hilarious story, Triple M's Liam Flanagan advised Andy: “I think the campaign needs to start here. The ban needs to be lifted for Brisbane 2032!”

Andy joked, “or, (we can try) jumping again… let's go down!”
