A woman who was at the centre of one of Australia’s most bizarre disappearances has been found dead on a golf course.

Natasha Ryan’s body was found on the Rockhampton golf course on Sunday. There are no suspicious circumstances.

Ms. Ryan, then 14, ran away from home in 1998 to be with her 21-year-old boyfriend, Scott Black.

Ms Ryan was believed to have been murdered by serial killer and rapist Leonard John Fraser.

But after a tip-off to police, it was found hidden in a cupboard in Mr Black’s home in Central Queensland in 2003.

The couple were on trial for falsely triggering a police investigation.

They later married and had four children.

Emergency services spent several hours searching by land and air for a missing person in the Rockhampton region on 2 June.

The RACQ CapRescue helicopter service assisted with the search this morning in the area of the Rockhampton Golf Course in West Rockhampton, close to the Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

A statement from Queensland Police said rescue workers searching for a 40-year-old woman found her body this morning.

“Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the sudden and unsuspected death of a woman in Rockhampton,” it said.
