“While the game has clear Souls DNA, it can end up being a weird and confusing hybrid that doesn't accomplish anything.”
The success of the series in the Asian market, plus the imminent release of The First Berserker: Khazan, a Soulslike set in the world of DNF, has the franchise developer wanting to capitalize. Speaking exclusively to TheGamer, Khazan's creative director, Junho Lee, shared that Neople is working on Dungeon & Fighter anime, manga, and stories.
Dungeon & Fighter Spin-Offs are coming
While discussing the possibilities of the Dungeon & Fighter universe with us at TheGamer, Lee shared that during the creation of The First Berserker: Khazan, the team “started development with the idea that there would be a lot of users don't know about Dungeon & Fighting than you do,”
“So, at the beginning of development, our goal was to get people to enjoy it as much as we do. The whole idea is to appeal to many users and people who love console games,” he added.
However, even though they know it's not universally appealing, the team has full confidence in the franchise, citing it as Khazan's biggest inspiration for FromSoftware games. It was this confidence that led Lee to tell me, “Not only that, but we're also working on books, anime and comics.”
Although he couldn't share more details, it will mark Korean developer Neople's second attempt at cracking the anime and manga market. In 2009, the company released Slap-up Party: Arad Senki, a Dungeon & Fighter spin-off. The adaptation spawned a 26-episode anime series and a single manga
