Dana White unleashes on judge over Paulo Costa vs Sean Strickland scorecard at UFC 302

UFC President Dana White has taken a referee to task for a highly questionable scorecard in the co-main event of UFC 302.

Former middleweight champion Sean Strickland raised his hand after a five-round showdown against Paulo Costa.

While most spectators felt that Strickland had done more than enough to secure a unanimous points victory, one judge saw it differently.

As Bruce Buffer read the scorecards, Strickland was stunned and threw his hands up in anger at one card.

Judge Dave Tirelli scored the fight 49-46 in favor of the Brazilian fighter. His card was in stark contrast to the scores of his colleagues, who scored it 49-46 and 50-45 for Strickland.

White didn’t mince his words when asked about the obscure score during the debriefing of his press conference.

“There were a few weirdos who were totally crazy, that’s it. It was crazy,” he said.

“This guy should never referee a big fight again! They should send him back to the minor leagues and let him work on his judgment. It’s unbelievable.”

White questioned the mental state of all spectators at the co-main event and scored the fight in favor of Paulo Costa.

“I mean, how can anyone who isn’t completely insane call this fight a split decision? I don’t even know what to say, that’s crazy.”

White wasn’t the only one upset about Tirelli’s score; UFC fans went into a frenzy after the announcement.

MMA writer Aaron Bronsteter wrote, “I can find a reason to rationalize most of the scorecards submitted by the judges, but 49-46 for Costa is untenable.”

MMA writer Mike Bohn wrote: “49-46 Costa is a criminal. Holy crap.”

Damon Martin, editor of MMA Fighting, wrote: “He just beat Paulo Costa 49-46. Really get him out of the building.”

The chaos on the scoreboard wasn’t the only crazy moment that night, as former US President Donald Trump also arrived to take a seat at the cage edge.

The convicted felon was the star of the event as he entered the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey, in front of over 15,000 fans.

Only 48 hours earlier, the 77-year-old had been found guilty on all 34 counts in the New York hush money trial.

Despite all this, Trump seemed more popular than ever during his appearance in front of screaming fans.

As he walked alongside UFC boss Dana White, Trump shook hands with spectators and posed for photos.

When he reached the cage, he turned around and threw his hands in the air as the crowd grew even wilder.
