Boxing news 2023: Jake Paul press event with Nate Diaz descends into chaos

A brawl broke out following the press conference for Jake Paul’s fight with UFC great Nate Diaz this weekend.

YouTube star Paul is looking to bounce back from his first defeat in the ring when he takes on retired UFC standout Diaz, 38.

It comes after years of feuding between the pair.

Paul was posing on stage after the media formalities when rival security guards started to push and shove on stage.

Some punches were thrown while others tries to quell the situation.

Paul took to Twitter afterwards to say Diaz’s team was claiming an assault took place.

“Nate’s team has emailed my team trying to claim assault after his team swung first,” he wrote.

“Apparently the guy who swung first is at the hospital getting stitches. Hilarious these fake gangsters acting like this!”

Paul made his name and his fortune on YouTube before turning to boxing.

Having won his first six bouts, the 26-year-old lost to Tommy Fury by split decision in Saudi Arabia in February this year.

He turned his back on a rematch with the brother of heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, instead opting to take on a long discussed clash with Diaz.

Paul had vowed to “kill” Diaz when speaking to the media at an open workout session and he repeated his intentions during the press conference.

“It’s not being antagonising or s**t talking, it’s telling the f**king truth, sir,” he said.

“I’m killing this man, I’m killing this man, I’m telling the truth, sir.”

Diaz holds a 21-13 career record in the Octagon, famously splitting two fights with Irish superstar Conor McGregor.

He won his last fight with fellow veteran Tony Ferguson in September last year but has never boxed professionally.

Despite Diaz’s advanced age, Paul says he is taking the fight extremely seriously.

“Best shape of my life,” he said. “Feeling amazing brought in a whole entire new team, strength and conditioning, nutritionist, head coach, all of that.

“I’m feeling good and when I’m in the shape like this and I have the proper time to prepare, you’re going to see a different version, the best version of Jake Paul you’ve ever seen.”
