the Pokemon TCGThe long and storied history begins with the original 151 Pokemon from Kanto, featuring some of the most popular Pokemon of all time. These classic Pokemon feature some of the best selling sets in the Pokemon TCG, as Charizard, Gengar, Blastoise and Venusaur are still four of the most popular Pokemon in the modern set.
In addition to introducing some of the best Pokemon ever to grace a TCG set, FireRed & LeafGreen also boasts an excellent art style that utilizes a holo cosmos pattern. These beautiful patterns include circles and swirls that can appear on the best FireRed & LeafGreen card backgrounds, distinguishing each copy as unique.

10 Clefable Ex (Ultra Rare) – $44.95
An impressive metronome
Clefable kicks things off with Metronome-themed art to grab our attention, as the hypnotic pattern behind it seems designed to keep us focused on this Fairy Finger.
Most of the cards in FireRed & LeafGreen (FR & LG) boast the same dynamic 3D style, making them their favorite.
featured with great animations.
A damaged copy of Clefable is worth less than ten dollars, even if it's played a lot (HP) double the price to $20. Average game (MP) card can jump to the mid-20s, if played a little (LP) is moving the needle well beyond $35.
9 Charmander (Secret Rare) – $52.27
Return of the Classic
This Charizard pose may look familiar as it is the same pose you may have seen on Charmander from the original Base Set. However, this version has a nice cosmos look often seen during the Neo era.
The base version did not have Cosmos holos, but boasted Infinite, Shadowless and First Edition versions to collect.
Charmander sells for up to $52.40 in NM terms, while the LP version falls in the $36 to $38 range if you don't want the best version. For additional discounts, MP is around $22.
8 Electrode Ex (Ultra Rare) – $54.82
Happy to be here
Electrode takes an unexpected lead from Charmander, although this old card shows a nice image of Electrode with electricity flowing around it. Electrode's signature smile continues as it looks back at the glowing energy, revealing this Pokemon.
If you can find one in NM condition, expect to pay around market value, as there are high sales for $56, with LP cards down to just $50. MP and HP are close to $30, although it depends a lot on the condition of the particular card.
7 Moltres Ex (Secret Rare) – $156.00
Setting the fire in FireRed
This Secret Rare heats things up with a huge increase in price, claiming to lead $100 in Electrode of War as the most valuable card in FireRed & LeafGreen.
The sale of a single NM at $ 156 sets the market price, but the HP card usually sells for $ 40 if you want to have this card at a cheap price, instead of looking for the perfect copy. However, if you want to find the middle ground, LP copy can be seen for a few dollars under the $100 mark, offering significant discounts on market prices.
6 Gyarados Ex (Ultra Rare) – $159.99
Climbing waterfall
Gyarados appears with some creepy art to boot, offering one of the most disturbing Pokemon images in the entire series. Most of the other cards in FR & LG offer a bright and weird scene, but Gyarados takes the opposite approach in this dark scene.
One NM copy sold for $199 shortly after another NM sold for $150, leaving a bit of a gap for this card, even at its highest level. Fortunately, the MP card offers a great opportunity for a discount, close to $70, while damaged copies can be had for under $30.
5 Blastoise Ex (Ultra Rare) – $165.75
Fall below its peers
Blastoise beats out its fellow Water-type Gyarados as one of the most valuable FireRed & LeafGreen cards, although it will sit in third place among its peers with a high price going forward.
Blastoise commands a decent price on LP and NM terms, with sales ranging from $161 to $210, minimal descriptive NM card, selling below other LP copies. Time is of the essence, and it gives you plenty of opportunities to get a deal if you're careful.
4 Articuno Ex (Secret Rare) – $176.95
The High Bird
Articuno rises above its fellow legendary Pokemon, Moltres, overshadowing its value by about $20, though not enough to close the door on Moltres seeing a resurgence.
The value of the card ebbs and flows over time,
therefore Articuno's current leadership may increase or decrease in different positions.
NM copies have increased in price, moving from $179 to $203 in successive sales, with LPs following suit at around $95. This card is hard to find in good raw condition, as clean copies are often sent for grading.
3 Venusaur Ex (Ultra Rare) – $296.48
A wide and light view
Venusaur blooms to an impressive height above Articuno, as this brilliant card captures our attention and wallets with a value of almost $300.
Fortunately, you won't have to pay anywhere near market value unless you're looking for a copy in NM condition.
Venusaur is very cheap LP terms, down to $109 and offering nearly $200 off the Venusaur ex in NM condition. MP copies are down to around $80, while serious hunters can find HP copies for $64.99.
2 Gengar Ex (Ultra Rare) – $301.25
The Perfect Gengar
Gengar's reign as the most popular Pokemon in North America is undisputed, as this classic Kanto stands the test of time with a list of valuable old cards.
There are a few other Gengars of similar value, leaving you with a difficult choice if you can't afford just one. Considering the age and rarity of this card, it is one of the best Gengar cards to have in NM condition.
Damaged stores set the floor at $99 for this card, while one NM copies commanded over $301, setting the pace for the rest. The HP version sells for around $110, with the MP shooting up to the $200 mark, showing the demand for this card. Finally, LP copies are over $260, makes NM's market value seem very accurate.
1 Charizard Ex (Ultra Rare) – $694.99
The GOAT for a reason
Charizard ex jumps big before his next close contest, leaving Gengar in the dust despite his favored Ghost type value. Breath-taking artwork captures Charizard for a fun time, as the flame is a perfect accent with the holographic flash that characterizes this scene.
NM sales in September 2024 reached as high as $950, with other sales around $834. A copy of MP is down to $399.99, which is still worth it for this Fire-type Pokemon Charizard is the undisputed best card in FireRed & LeafGreen.
