SUMMARY
-
The PS1 library of RPGs was crucial to its success.
-
Titles like Beyond the Beyond, Brave Prove, and Thousand Arms remain locked on the PS1.
-
Alundra 2 & Koudelka are examples of great sequels but not re-releases, without modern platforms.
Without a strong support library for RPGs, the PS1 may not be hit hard. One of Sony's smartest decisions was to re-release PS1 games online on PSN to enjoy on PS3 and PSP. It was at this point that players realized that they could play such a game Final Fantasy VII along the way must have opened the eyes.

6 Best PS1-based JRPGs, ranked
The original PlayStation was a haven for JRPGs, and they were the best the console had seen in its lifetime.
Final Fantasy VII and many other Square Enix and non-Square Enix RPGs have made it to the PS1 through the aforementioned digital ports and through other versions as well. These other games are still stuck on the PS1 even though there is no way to play them other than emulation or copying and the good old PS1.

In addition
Sony's first sun
-
Developer: Camelot Planning Software
-
Developer: Sony Computer Entertainment
-
Platform: PS1
-
Released: September 11, 1996 (NA)
In addition was one of the first RPGs released for the PS1. It was developed by Camelot which was a small name at the time but grew in size thanks to Nintendo. They are the team responsible for Golden Sun and its range Mario a sports title that borders on RPGs.
On top of that battle, the UI is similar to that of Golden Sun with large sprites and colorful animations. Sony re-released PS1 games on PS4 and PS5 recently with a minor update, so maybe one day In addition can return like The Legend of Dragon. For now though, it's locked on the PS1 and Sony should get Nintendo to do a deal on this one.

Dare to prove
Go West Young
- Developer: Western data
- PREACHER: Western data
- published: April 16, 1998 (Japan)
- Platform: PS1
Dare to prove it only came out in Japan in 1998 when the PS1 was cooking on gas. It is an action RPG developed by Data West, a company fans should not confuse with Data East, makers of fine games such as BurgerTime SY Joe & Mac. Brave Prove has large, giant sprites but they are well detailed compared to the more polygonal backgrounds of the game.

6 Best PS1 JRPGs That Are Not Part of a Franchise
Sony's first console had a single-player JRPG that went nowhere. Despite not being a bigger franchise, they still made waves.
For 1998, its release outside of Japan may have seemed too dated. However, retro fans can appreciate it now especially since it has a fan translation in English and the hack-and-slash gameplay is satisfying even though it may be old.

Alundra 2: A New Legend Begins
The first is certainly not the sequel
Alundra 2: A New Legend Begins

Alundra is the result of PS1 The legend of Zelda with a strong emphasis on dreams. It's a top-down adventure game that's been re-released on digital stores like the PS3. Alundra 2: A New Legend Begins is a more ambitious sequel that includes full 3D backgrounds and characters.
Played the same as Mega Man LegendsAnother hidden gem from the PS1, but with swordplay instead of guns. Unlike before, Alundra 2: A New Legend Begins did not leave the PS1 and hopefully pirates will see the light of the console again.

A thousand arms would be good at home in a Persona a collection of fans and not just because Atlus published it. It's also a turn-based RPG that features a romance mechanic. The player is a young blacksmith named Meis who can't get stronger with his hammer when he falls in love.

7 Best PS1 JRPGs Without Random Encounters, Ranked
These PS1 games were ahead of the randomized curve.
Players will meet various female party members in their quests and dialogue choices can increase or decrease these relationships. A really crazy story like a harem anime Tenchi Muyo or Love Hina except in more turn-based battles.

Koudelka is a horror turn-based RPG set in 1898. Players can move their party around tiles based on the battlefield even as a mini-tactical RPG. The player takes on the role of the titular Koudelka, a psychologist who was sent to investigate a house similar to Resident Evil.
This is before the Shadow HeartsAnother dark RPG, which takes place in the same world. There were plans to bring Koudelka to Neo Geo Pocket Color and Steam at various times, but those plans fell through and now the game is officially locked on the PS1.

Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
The forgotten past indeed
- Developer: Heart beat
- PREACHER: Enix
- published: November 1, 2001 (NA)
- Platform: PS1
Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is a late game for the PS1 and a generally late entry to Dragon Quest series. The sixth entry is a SNES game and it was released in 1995 in Japan. Due to the late release and seemingly outdated graphics, this PS1 classic was passed over by many and became a rarity.
Eventually it was remade for the 3DS which was actually the best way to play it and then there was a mobile version based on the update. Therefore, it is possible to play Dragon Quest 7: The Forgotten Fragment technically elsewhere but not in this original form which is a different experience on the PS1. Dragon Quest purists will surely love the chance to play this time-traveling game again.
