- The Electric-type remains iconic. Featuring Electric legends like Zekrom, Thundurus, and Tapu Koko, trainers have legendary options to bolster any team.
- New additions like Regieleki provide exciting choices. With high speed and powerful moves, trainers can utilize unique options to enhance their Electric-type lineup.

5 Hardest Legendary Pokemon Battles
Legendary Pokemon are always the greatest challenge in any Pokemon game, and these Legendaries put up the toughest fights of all.
Often overshadowed by more popular types, Electric-type Pokemon have plenty to offer any given party. Pikachu might be the series’ most well-known Electric-type, but it’s far from the best you can get throughout your journey. With so many unique Electric-type Pokemon out there, narrowing down the best of the bunch can be tough. Luckily, these amazing Pokemon stand out as the best among their peers.
Updated October 11, 2024 by Ben Painter: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet brought fans some amazing new Electric types, a brand-new Pikachu clone, futuristic-looking Paradox forms, and some Legendary Pokemon. Electric types are iconic in the series.
The franchise mascot, Pikachu, is an Electric-type after all. They are only weak to one type, Ground, and are massively useful and usually very quick Pokemon. This updated list adds five more of the best Electric-type Pokemon that have been introduced in the Pokemon games.
28 Galvantula
Decent Sp. Atk & Speed But Improvement Needed
- Type: Bug/Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Black & White
- Generation: 5
- Best Nature: Timid
- Weak To: Rock (2x), Fire (2x)
The first Electric/Bug-type Pokemon came in the form of Galvantula and its pre-evolved form of Jotik, which evolves at level 36. The Bug typing somewhat helps this Pokemon as it gives neutrality to Electric’s biggest killer in Ground. However, it does remain with the Bug weaknesses to Rock and Fire. However, the Flying-type frailty is rendered obsolete by the Electric type.
Galvantula has decent stats. It shines in Speed and Special Attack, hitting hard with powerful special STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) moves. Its design is solid, too – Galvantula is just a tarantula with a shocking coloring, which works well.
Galvantula’s Best Moves:
As a fast Special Attacker, gamers will want to use a moveset of Electro Ball, which benefits from the likelihood that it will be quicker than the opponent. Bug Buzz will also work as a high-powered Bug move, increased with STAB. As a support move, Thunder Wave is perfect for ensuring paralysis, and Sucker Punch will work as a priority move, making sure the target is definitely hit in battle.

27 Alolan Golem
A Needed Variant For An Iconic Pokemon
- Released
- November 18, 2016
- Type: Rock/Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Sun & Moon
- Generation: 7
- Best Nature: Adamant
- Weak To: Fighting (2x), Ground (4x), Water (2x), Grass (2x)
Originally, Golem was introduced as one of the members of the original 151 Pokemon in Pokemon Red & Blue, and years later, it was given a regional form in Alola and given the Electric typing as opposed to the Ground typing. Typing-wise, this wasn’t a great move as it gained a 4x weakness to Ground and also a Fighting, Water, and Grass weakness.

While many Pokemon names remain consistent across locales, some undergo intriguing changes in translation.
However, physically, this Pokemon is a beast both in offense and defense. It can certainly deal massive amounts of damage but don’t expect it to be winning any races. Golem is given some epic facial hair and a new structure on the back, which plays on the electric theme.
Alolan Golem’s Best Moves:
In Alola, Golem has a completely different moveset, of course, as it has a brand-new type. Gamers should consider a moveset of Stone Edge for massive Rock damage. Thunder Punch will be useful for some shocking physical power. Stealth Rock will allow for some chip damage when an enemy Pokemon enters the field. When in a pinch, the 250 base power Explosion is the perfect last resort when the chips are down.

26 Lanturn
The First Water/Electric-type Family
Pokemon Gold
- Platform(s)
- Game Boy Color
- Released
- October 14, 2000
- Type: Water/Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Gold & Silver
- Generation: 2
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (2x), Grass (2x)
Pokemon Gold & Silver introduced a brand-new wave of Pokemon, and one of those was the Water/Electric-type Lanturn, which can be used as an effective wall thanks to its massive HP stat. It will take a lot to rock this Pokemon, especially considering it only has two weaknesses: Ground and Grass. The former is countered well by Lanturn’s Water moves.
This ‘mon is based on an angler fish, but unlike the real-life animal, this Pokemon is much nicer to look at, and it seems a lot more friendly. Chinchou is the first stage of this family, and it evolves starting at level 27.
Lanturn’s Best Moves:
A good way to go when using Lanturn is the Stockpile, Swallow, and Spit Up strategy, as it learns all moves on evolution. Stockpile can be done up to three times to boost the powers of Swallow (which gains HP back) and Spit Up (which deals damage to the opposing Pokemon), and it also boosts the user’s Defense and Special Defense. The other move should be a move such as Hydro Pump or Discharge for some extra damage.

25 Heliolisk
Varied Moveset with High Special Attack
- Released
- October 12, 2013
- Type: Electric/Normal
- Game Introduced:Pokemon X & Y
- Generation: 6
- Best Nature: Timid
- Weak To: Ground (2x), Fighting (2x)
Electric and Normal-type Pokemon both have the smallest number of weaknesses in the games. Being an Electric/Normal-type, Heliolisk reaps the benefits and drawbacks of both. Its typing makes it weak to both Ground and Fighting-type moves, which gives it more weaknesses than what a pure Electric-type would have. On the plus side, it does get an immunity to Ghost-type moves.
Heliolisk’s high Speed and Special Attack make it a great glass cannon. Trainers probably shouldn’t expect it to last very long in most battles. But if used effectively in the right matchups, Heliolisk can really shine in most teams.
Heliolisk’s Best Moves:
To use the Generator Pokemon’s high Special Attack, Heliolisk should run a moveset of Volt Switch, a 70 base power Special move that will also switch it out, handy for needing a way out of a battle. Hyper Voice is a Normal-type Special move to add some variety. Thunderbolt is the best Electic-type Special move, as the higher power Thunder has lower accuracy. The last move should be Surf, an awesome counter to Electric’s only weakness, Ground.

24 Zebstrika
A Fast Physical Attacker
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Black & White
- Generation: 5
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
Unlike most pure Electric-types, Zebstrika has a much higher Attack than it does Special Attack. With a variety of solid Physical moves in its learnset, this Electric Pokemon can be a useful addition to any party.

The Pokemon battles players will engage in during Scarlet and Violet’s story are the hardest in the series, with these fights being especially tough.
Zebstrika’s biggest fault lies in its Defense. Both its base Defense and Special Defense come in at an abysmal 63. This means that it will likely fall to any opponent it fails to finish off with its first attack. It’s another glass cannon that gives trainers the option of going for a Physical attacker instead.
Zebstrika’s Best Moves:
Gamers should run Physical Attacking moves, Wild Charge would be perfect here to make use of a STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) move. Volt Switch will also be handy to switch out, Flame Charge is awesome for some type coverage, and Rest or Substitute can also be applied to neutralize and minimize any damage gained, with its low defenses it could be needed in battle.

23 Hisuian Electrode
Speed is the Game
- Released
- January 28, 2022
- Type: Electric/Grass
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Legends: Arceus
- Generation: 8
- Best Nature: Timid
- Weak To: Poison (2x), Bug (2x), Ice (2x), Fire (2x)
Pokemon Legends: Arceus brought fans some interesting variations of Pokemon, and one of those is a variant on the Electric-type Electrode. The lore of Pokemon explains that Pokeballs were originally wooden and made from ‘Apricorns,’ so to make the Pokeball-inspired Pokemon Electrode a Grass-type is perfect.
Electrode on its own is a bit of a gimmick, it is quick and tends to use Explosion. However, its Hisuian counterpart is a bit more three-dimensional, capable of learning some STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) Grass moves such as Chloroblast, Energy Ball, and Seed Bomb. But it also has decent type coverage in Gyro Ball and Rollout, along with the standard Electric moves. At 150 Speed, both forms of Electrode are incredibly quick. Not many other Pokemon will outspeed this ‘mon in battle.
Hisuian Electrode’s Best Moves:
Electro Ball is the perfect move for Hisuian Electrode. This move has more power the more speed the Pokemon has than its opponent, being one of the fastest in the franchise makes this move beastly. The Pokemon is known for exploding, so Explosion can be useful with a 250-base power move as a last resort in a tough battle. Chloroblast is ideal for a STAB grass Special move. Volt Switch is also a move to use as a way to switch out of battle.

22 Luxray

- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Diamond & Pearl
- Generation: 4
- Best Nature: Jolly
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
Luxray is another standout Electric-type that breaks the mold and boasts a higher Attack than Special Attack. Its Defense and Special Defense are average at best, as is its HP.

Water-type Pokemon come in all shapes, sizes, and designs, but some of them are simply better than others. Here’s a look at the best so far.
Trainers will need to get the most out of Luxray in battle, as it isn’t tanky enough to sustain consistent damage. With 79 base Speed, it’s likely that Luxray won’t be attacking first against most opponents. But it’s still one of the best Electric-type Pokemon, thanks to its diverse learn set and high Attack stat.
Luxray’s Best Moves:
Luxray prides itself on its Physical Attack. The ideal moveset to run with the Gleam Eyes Pokemon is Wild Charge, which can hit hard with a 90-base power move. Crunch adds some variety with another type. Thunder Wave is also useful as it is a way to instantly paralyze opponents. Trailblaze, a Grass move will give this ‘mon a way to counter those Ground types that cause Electric so many problems.

21 Jolteon
Eeveelutions Are Always Great
Pokemon Red
- Released
- February 27, 1996
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Red & Blue
- Generation: 1
- Best Nature: Timid
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
It might not be the most popular Eeveelution in the franchise, but Jolteon is certainly one of the better pure Electric-type Pokemon you can train. With high speed and great special attack, Jolteon is best suited as a glass cannon and has tons of moves in its learnset that trainers can put to good use.
Like all pure Electric-types, Jolteon is only weak to Ground-type moves, adding in a resistance to Flying, Steel, and of course Electric-types. With moves like Thunder, Discharge, and Thunder Shock in its learnset alongside Thunderbolt and Electro Ball in its arsenal of TM/TR moves, trainers will have no problem getting the most out of Jolteon.
Joleteon’s Best Moves:
There is a lot of variety in Jolteon’s movest, gamers can go down a few directions in applying moves to the Eevee evolution. It can learn a lot of support moves such as Rain Dance, Rest, Substitute, Helping Hand, and Baton Pass. However, an awesome way to set up Jolteon is Rain Dance, Thunder, Weather Ball, and Charge. Charge can boost the power of Electric Moves. Rain Dance will ensure that Thunder is 100% accurate and Weather Ball to add a Water-type move when the rain is active.

20 Toxtricity
Its Ability Boosts Its Signature Moves
- Released
- November 15, 2019
- Type: Electric/Poison
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Sword & Shield
- Generation: 8
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (4x), Psychic (2x)
Along with its pre-evolved form, Toxel, Toxtricity is the only Electric/Poison-type Pokemon, which certainly gives it the edge over its colleagues. The Punk Pokemon comes in two different forms, Low Key and Amped, which are dependent on its nature. The two forms have the same stats. The only difference other than appearance is the Low Key form learns Magnetic Flux at level 52, while the Amped learns Shift Gear at the same level.

Pokemon: 6 Most Exciting Build-Ups To Battles In The Franchise
Players do a lot of battling in any given Pokemon game, but these battles felt much more significant because of the lengthy build up to them.
Its standout stat is its 114 Sp. Atk, it can hit opponents from range with Overdrive and Boomburst, both of which are boosted by its Punk Rock ability by 30%. This alone makes it one of the best Electric-type Pokemon in the games. However, gamers must be cautious when facing Ground types, as it has a 4x weakness as opposed to 2x of pure Electric ‘mons.
Toxtricity’s Best Moves:
Like most Electric types, Special Attack is the way to go. Overdrive and Boomburst are key, as they are amplified by their Punk Rock ability. It is also recommended that a special Poison move, such as Sludge Wave or Gunk Shot. The last move could go a few ways, but Toxic could be ideal to badly Poison the opposition to get that bit of chip damage every turn of battle.

19 Ampharos
The Fan-Favorite Generation 2 Electric-type
Pokemon Silver
- Released
- October 14, 2000
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Gold & Silver
- Generation: 1
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (2x), Ice (2x), Dragon (2x), Fairy (2x)
Up to the end of Gen VII, Ampharos would have ranked much higher when compared to its fellow Electric-types. That has a lot to do with its Mega Evolution. Mega Ampharos is a great Pokemon that makes the most of Ampharos’ strengths and stands out as one of the better of the bunch.
The current games don’t allow players to make use of this mechanic, so Ampharos must be judged on how it measures up in the current meta. A minimal stat boost following Gen VI rounded Ampharos’ base stats, though its speed remained subpar. Aside from that, Ampharos is a decently well-rounded Pokemon. It possesses great special stats, with its special attack something that trainers need to take advantage of in battle.
Ampharos’ Best Moves:
Discharge is the ideal Electric-type move to run on Ampharos. It has 80-base power but 100% accuracy, something that the higher-powered Thunder does not have going for it. Ice Punch is crucial as a way to counter Ground types. Cotton Guard is an awesome way to boost its defenses and, lastly, Dragon Pulse is key for type coverage, and adds a STAB move when playing a game which allows for its Mega Evolution, which gains the Dragon typing.

18 Magnezone
Steel Typing Helps with Defense
- Type: Electric/Steel
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Diamond & Pearl
- Generation: 4
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Fighting (2x), Ground (4x), Fire (2x)
Magnezone continues the trend of high special attacking Electric-types, coming in with a base special attack of 130 to go alongside 90 special defense and 115 defense. The final form in the Magnemite tree might scare some off with middling speed and HP stats, but its other stats more than make up for them.

That might seem devastating, but Magnezone’s immunity to Poison and 11 type resistances more than make up for its shortcomings.
Magnezone’s Best Moves:
For Magnezone, Lock-On and Zap Cannon are a quality combination. The former ensures that the next move hits, and the latter can deal 120-base powered STAB Special move which will decimate the enemy. Magnet Rise is key as it will avoid the 4x weakness to Ground and Flash Cannon adds a vital Steel move.

17 Electivire
A Much-Needed Evolution for Electabuzz
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Diamond & Pearl
- Generation: 4
- Best Nature: Naive
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
When looking at Electivire’s base stats, the one thing that jumps out is its incredibly low defense. The rest of its stats are either decent or well above average. So any trainer looking to take this Gen IV Pokemon on as part of their team will need to keep its 67 base defense in mind.
Thunder Punch and Wild Charge are two Electric moves that will allow trainers to take advantage of Electrive’s 123 base attack. If that’s not enough, plenty of useful TRs can be found around the Galar region.
Electivire’s Best Moves:
With a need for physical attacks, the Thunderbolt Pokemon should have Wild Charge and Giga Impact as its attacking moves. Thunder Wave is helpful for paralyzing foes and Trailblaze can be useful to counter its only weakness in Ground types. But with decent Special Attack also, Thunderbolt or Thunder wouldn’t look out of place on Electrivire.

Its unique typing, paired with a myriad of moves, can be pretty useful for those looking for a unique partner with interesting type coverage.

15 Eelektross
No Weaknesses
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Black & White
- Generation: 5
- Best Nature: Rash
- Weak To: N/A
There’s more to Eelektross than meets the eye. This Electric-type Pokemon has the Levitate ability, meaning that it isn’t affected by Ground-type moves. This gives Elektross a huge advantage over other Electric Pokemon.
Speed is Elektross’ only real weakness. With 50 base Speed, this Electric Pokemon will likely attack last in most battles. It has high enough Defense stats and boasts high Attack and Special Attack stats. Elektross is one of the more intriguing Electric Pokemon in the game, and one trainers shouldn’t overlook.
Eelektross’ Best Moves:
Wild Charge is the optimal move here for Eelektross. Dragon Tail adds some decent coverage with the bonus effect of forcing a switch to the opponent’s team. Coil is decent for improving its Attack and Defense stats and Drain Punch adds a Fighting-type move but is also a way of recovering HP.

- Released
- November 18, 2016
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced: Pokemon Sun & Moon
- Generation: 7
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
Ultra Beasts might not have legendary status in the games, but these extraterrestrial Pokemon are some of the strongest and rarest. Xurkitree stands as the only Electric-type of the bunch and backs its claim as one of the strongest of its type.

Xurkitree’s Best Moves:
This weird looking Pokemon has a staggering Special Attack stat, so gamers must make use of this with the moves Thunderbolt and Solar Beam. Massive HP and Special Attack
- Type: Electric/Dragon
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Indigo Disk DLC
- Generation: 9
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (2x), Ice (2x), Dragon (2x), Fairy (2x)
Raging Bolt is a past Paradox form of Raikou exclusive to Pokemon Scarlet players while exploring the Hidden Treasures of Area Zero DLC. Although its design may be questionable, trainers may need to put this aside if they want to use a powerful Electric/Dragon ‘mon in Paldea.
Its best stat is its 137 Special Attack. Moves like Zap Cannon, Dragon Pulse, and Thunder will be beneficial to decimate opponents that stand in their way. Raging Bolt is a bit tricky to acquire. Players will need The Indigo Disk DLC and must enter 200 Pokemon in the Blueberry Academy Pokedex to add the Paradox Pokemon to their roster.
Raging Bolt’s Best Moves:
There are a lot of strong moves which gamers can run with this Paradox Pokemon, Rising Voltage is the ideal Electric move here. Dragon Pulse is also perfect to go alongside its Dragon secondary typing. Ancient Power adds some Rock-type coverage and Calm Mind is awesome for a boost to its already insane Special Attack.

- Pokemon Sun & Moon (Alola)
- Generation: 1
- Best Nature: Modest
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
- Ground (2x), Ghost (2x), Bug (2x), Dark (2x)
As the evolution of the franchise mascot, Pikachu, Raichu is certainly up there as one of the best Electric-type Pokemon in the series. The Electric Mouse thrives as a fast, mixed attacker and is a decent option for playthroughs of Kanto games and beyond.

It was also given a new form in the Alolan region, which gained a secondary Psychic typing and now uses its tail as a surfboard, surfing on psychic waves. If anything, it gives it more weaknesses but also varies its moveset. This is also a reference to the surfing Pikachu that has appeared in the anime. Raichu must be evolved from Pikachu using a Thunder Stone. In Alola, it will become the Alolan version.
Raichu’s Best Moves:
Regular Raichu’s will benefit from a moveset of Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Iron Tail, and Nuzzle, to deal some Electric damage and with the benefit of a priority move and coverage with Iron Tail. Nuzzle is a 100% accurate Electric move that paralyzes foes. Alolan Raichu’s moves should stay the same, but Iron Tail is replaced with Psychic.

11 Pikachu
The Franchise Mascot
- Type: Electric
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Red & Blue
- Generation: 1
- Best Nature: Hasty
- Weak To: Ground (2x)
On the face of it, Pikachu is not a great Electric-type Pokemon. But since Pikachu is the franchise mascot, it would be a sin to exclude him from the list of best Electric-type Pokemon. Ash’s Pikachu in the anime is one of the greatest Pokemon of all time. He was the final Pokemon in the Masters Eight tournament.
But in the games, he isn’t much to write home about. If gamers are playing Let’s Go Pikachu, however, this is a different story. The Partner Pikachu used in this game cannot evolve and offers a boost to its stats. It can also learn the move Zippy Zap, a 50 base power move that always hits first and always results in a critical hit. Players can pretty much walk through this game with their Pikachu.
Pikachu’s Best Moves:
Raichu is the stronger form of Pikachu, but if gamers are playing Let’s Go Pikachu!, then it cannot reach this form. The Partner Pikachu can learn some different moves, one being Zippy Zap, a move that always results in a critical hit. Along with that Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, and Splishy Splash are awesome to run on this boosted Pikachu.

10 Rotom (All Forms)
Incredible Variation
- Type: Electric/Varies
- Game Introduced:Pokemon Diamond & Pearl (Normal), Pokemon Platinum (Other Forms)
- Generation: 4
- Best Nature: Timid
- Weak To: Varies
Rotom deserves its place as one of the best Electric-type Pokemon due to its versatility in the game. The Plasma Pokemon can become five new forms in the game as it possesses a different electrical device. These include a fan (Electric/Flying), a refrigerator (Electric/Ice), an oven (Electric/Fire), a lawnmower (Electric/Grass), and a washing machine (Electric/Water).
Gamers can use this to their benefit, using Rotom as a different tool to prepare for different major battles. All forms of the Pokemon have Levitate, so Electric’s biggest weakness (Ground-type attacks) is neutralized. Heat Form Rotom is unique in being the only Pokemon with the Electric/Fire type combination, another plus for this ‘mon.
Rotom’s Best Moves:
Rotom is a special case, as it can switch forms that change its type, so depending on its form, it will have a different moveset. As a base, Substitute, Discharge, and Shadow Ball are key for all forms of Rotom. On switching their forms, it always learns a move, so one of Overheat, Hydro Pump, Blizzard, Air Slash, and Leaf Storm should always be applied.

9 Tapu Koko

9 Pokemon That Could Fit In Palworld
Comparisons between Pals and Pokemon are unavoidable, but if a crossover ever happened, these Pokemon would fit perfectly into Palworld.
Tapu Koko has great stats across the board. Its special defense and HP aren’t particularly impressive, but it makes up for this with great speed, attack, and special attack stats. Tapu Koko has a solid selection of Electric and Fairy-type moves in its arsenal. With so much variety, trainers should have no shortage of options when choosing how to play it.
Tapu Koko’s Best Moves:
Nature’s Madness is the signature move of the guardian deities, so it must be used here on Tapu Koko. Wild Charge is a powerful Physical Electric move that will work well with its high Attack stat. Screech could be used to lower the opponents’ Defense. The last move slot should be Brave Bird, a strong Flying-type move that adds some needed coverage to this Legendary.
