BattleField 6 is an intoxicating experience. I've been playing multiplayer for over 100 hours now, which means that the last fifteen days (I got the game early this morning to check), five of them were spent fighting. It's a wonder I didn't get burned. But I'm starting to feel a little tired.
It's not from Gamer Gamer fatigue, although I'm well-prepared for sitting at my desk for long periods of time. This tired but from Battlefield 6 itself Although the action is not as twitchy and gung ho, it still pushes you towards high speed, the mobile game.
This is how they've been fighting for years, but for me, the essence of a game in this series is a big fight, push and pull, the slow grind. Tactics. Strategy. Not a guy with a gun and a pocket full of stun grenades.
We were side by side: BattleFields 6 is just a small map
I am a terrible actor. This is the way I spend the most time, and I can tell you now, the maps are absolutely terrible. They are nowhere near as big, and pale in comparison to the depth of my beloved passenger's work. All people are injected into the minisule space and forced to press it. A player with good movement, aim and speed, can dominate the whole game, because there is nowhere for a slower player to set up shop.
The size of the map is just felt. Mirak Valley is now deserted (no tanks / few tanks for the attacking side), but the open field is a shooting gallery for the defending team. It is very frustrating to keep your head up against the inevitable defense. When the team is not balanced, the game is very unbalanced. There is no room for anyone on the offensive team to make big plays. You need to pay the middle and die. Over and over again.
As a result of the size of the map, driving feels very oppressive. In the previous game there was a breathing room in the car, and often went around them, or floated them on a tree, in Ackmadita 6 they are almost on top of you. A good driver paired with some dedicated engineers will dominate a game. It takes a lot of effort from several people on the opposing team to bring them down, which is not always safe when mixed with people with neutral people.
All of these add up to a frustrating experience at times. I can see the players tired of this repetitive meat, very quickly, especially as the development of the Meta and players begin to settle in their roles. We can't even be sure if the gun will dominate, because no one has locked the trigger or anything. This fast paced slouch around corners and sliding around can only get worse.
We need a bigger map
The fight is very good in the war 6. I like the ability to crawl in the dirt like a sniper, pick people from pieces, or sneaky attacks from far points. The atmosphere and vibes are simply unmatched. EA and Dice have done a great job in bringing back the series. But we need a bigger map as soon as possible.
We don't even need a new map. They just take what they already have and make it bigger. Extend the Manhattan Bridge around the entire city. Chuck some players there. The game runs smoothly. Why not try the basics by adjusting the size and depth of the map? This will give time and space for the players to breathe, and make the struggle where they enter more important, instead of running, running, running, running, dying, the rotation of all but the strongest players.
I hope to see a big change in the map that goes along the way. BATTLEFIELH 6 is an excellent base, but we are still far from being one of the best in the series.
