Australian YouTube stars of ‘Superwog’ fame Theo and Nathan Saidden land new Netflix show

Australian brothers Theo and Nathan Saidden have landed a new standalone series on Netflix.

The popular YouTube stars are bringing back their beloved Superwog characters for a new show titled son of a donkeythat is produced for the streamer.

The Sydney comedy duo, who launched their online channel in 2008 and have since reached 3.48 million subscribers, previously starred in two seasons of Superwog for ABC, which last aired in 2021.

The series was picked up by Netflix, where it proved popular with local and international audiences. It was retitled Superbro outside Australia, as the term “wog” is considered offensive in certain cultures.

Theo and Nathan will write, direct and produce six episodes of The Last Man. son of a donkeywhich is also produced by Princess Pictures.

“In Son of a Donkey, we meet Theo just as he moves out of home to claim his independence – until he is confronted with the harsh realities of adult life,” says a synopsis.

“From traffic tickets and daddy issues to internet fraud and plenty of therapy, Theo and his best friend Johnny get up to their usual antics while dealing with what matters most: family.”

Production has already begun in Melbourne and the series is supported by VicScreen through the Victorian Screen Incentive.

“There are new characters, bigger ideas, more action, more craziness. It’s just so exciting to be working with a service that’s bringing us to screens all over the world.”

Princess Pictures executive producer Mike Cowap said the production company was excited to support Theo and Nathan’s budding careers after previously producing the ABC series.

“We are proud to support Theo and Nathan as they evolve from short online comedy to half-hour episodes to their most ambitious season-long epic story yet,” said Cowap.

“All imbued with their larger than life characters and trademark irreverent slapstick humour. They have already gained a passionate fanbase outside of Australia, but with their first Netflix series we are excited to see this grow exponentially.”
