Orson Haver

A Traitorous Drunkard Dwarf That Is Hardly Seen

Orson Haver from Dragon Age: Origins

  • Dragon Age: Origins – A Tale of Orzammar DLC

Some players may have never encountered Orson Haver due to him being included in a DLC that gave exclusive content to the Dwarf Noble Origin beginning in Dragon Age: Origins. Players aren’t able to get to know Orson for very long due to him only being important in this beginning section of the game, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t at least be included.

For the brief moments that Orson Haver is spoken to, the player recruits this drunk Dwarf quite easily, as players tell Orson that he’s part of the Expedition – even though he isn’t – and therefore, he automatically joins the soon-to-be Warden’s party. Though he is nothing but a traitor, as revealed at the end of the Expedition, he knifes the player in the back and reveals he was working for the Warden’s brother, Bhelen, and his drunk antics were all a ruse.

Runic Golem

A Temporary Help In The Deep Roads

A Runic Golem in Dragon Age: Origins

  • Dragon Age: Origins – The Golems of Amgarrak DLC

Although an incredibly impressive companion to have in Dragon Age: Origins for The Golems of Amgarrak DLC, this Runic Golem has nothing on Shale. Other than its purpose to destroy the Darkspawn that are attacking the Warden-Commander and the other companions, this Golem has no story to it.

While it is incredibly useful during these battles within the DLC, this historical Golem doesn’t make it out of Amgarrak, as during the battle with the Harvester at the end, when the Thaig starts to crumble, a boulder crushes the Golem.

19

Brogan Dace

A Seasoned Warrior Of The Noble Caste

Brogan Dace in Dragon Age: Origins

  • Dragon Age: Origins – The Golems of Amgarrak DLC

Besides the Runic Golem, another warrior companion the players rely on in this DLC is Brogan Dace. When first found within Amgarrak, Brogan is driven somewhat mad due to the constant exposure to Lyrium within the Fade. However, even while slightly unhinged, Brogan is still able to wield his weapon and help the Warden-Commander destroy the Forge.

Necromancer Emmrich in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a far greater romance option than one would think. Here’s why his romance is worthwhile.

As a veteran of battle, Brogan is able to easily hold his own and is a great help while facing the various Darkspawn and other creatures found within this DLC, as well as being shown to be quite charismatic, as he even convinces his brother to help him destroy the Forge to put an end to the experiments that have been conducted there.

18

Silas Corthwaite

A Formidable Warrior That Aids Leliana

Silas Corthwaite in Dragon Age: Origins

  • Dragon Age: Origins – Leliana’s Song DLC

Leliana’s Song is an interesting DLC that explores the backstory of the Rogue companion Leliana before she became a Chantry sister in Dragon Age: Origins. As she can’t fight alone, the player – as Leliana – is likely to encounter various companions. One such useful member of her party is Silas Corthwaite, the rebel soldier.

Found in a dungeon after he is caught hunting without permission, after he escapes he joins Leliana and Sketch on their quest to defeat both Marjolaine and Raleigh. This is also his own quest for revenge, as players can allow Silas to be the one to kill Raleigh so that he may get his own revenge. After the events of Leliana’s Song, not much is known about where Silas went other than his joining the Chantry.

17

Ariane

A Gifted Dalish Warrior In Search Of A Lost Artifact

Ariane in Dragon Age: Origins

  • Dragon Age: Origins – Witch Hunt DLC

Ariane and the Warden or Warden-Commander encounter each other purely by fate, as they are both looking for the same person, for different reasons. With the player hoping to track down their old friend Morrigan and Ariane wishing to track her down to get back a stolen Artifact, the player and this formidable Dalish warrior must work as a team as they adventure through the Dragon Age: Origins – Witch Hunt DLC.

Even after the events of the DLC, Ariane doesn’t return to her clan, but instead adventures with Finn, keeping him safe from the various mercenaries that are sent after him by his family.

16

Tug

A Secretive Yet Loyal Companion

Tug in Dragon Age: Origins

  • Dragon Age: Origins – Leliana’s Song DLC

Silas isn’t the only warrior that was available to players in the Leliana’s Song DLC in Dragon Age: Origins, as Tug is the first warrior they will recruit. While Leliana didn’t know much about Tug as he kept a lot of his former life secret, she knew him to be loyal, cunning, and a great warrior.

Sketch claims that he died protecting him, as Tug wouldn’t stop talking in the hopes that it would prevent them from cutting off the Mage’s hands, showing how loyal he was, even if it meant sacrificing himself.

15

Justice

A Spirit Of The Fade Trapped In The Mortal World

  • Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening DLC

Players may be familiar with Justice from Dragon Age 2, where the spirit is seen merged with Anders as they work toward freeing the Mages from the Templars. However, before this, Justice found itself trapped possessing the body of a past Warden in Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening, after helping the Warden-Commander escape the Fade.

Although the circumstances that put Justice into the waking world aren’t what they wanted, Justice makes the most of it by hoping to fulfill its purpose as Justice and continue the Warden’s work of the body it now inhabits in the hopes of helping the Warden-Commander against the Architect. After this, as mentioned, Justice then finds a new purpose with Anders.

14

Oghren

A Crude Dwarf That Helped The Warden

Systems

PlayStation-1 Xbox-1

Released

November 3, 2009

Oghren is a warrior companion from the first Dragon Age title that some players adore, while others hate. It isn’t a surprise, especially considering the crude humor of this ginger Dwarf as he harasses the various female companions in Dragon Age: Origins. Thankfully, by the Awakening DLC, Oghren seems to have settled down slightly, refraining from most of his jokes, though he can still be the typical drunk.

Even with the comments he makes to other women, Oghren is still somehow incredibly attached to his wife Branka, who went missing looking for the Anvil of the Void, pushing for people to go look for her, though nobody would until the Warden arrived. Even after dealing with this issue, Oghren even leaves Orzammar to become a surface Dwarf to help the player on their quest.

13

Loghain Mac Tir

Main Antagonist Of Origins And Possible Companion

Loghain Mac Tir is a companion that many players may have never realized they could have, especially as for the majority of Dragon Age: Origins, he is the antagonist that not only gets the majority of the Warden’s killed but also attempts to kill the player. However, by the end of the game, it’s possible to spare Loghain and have him turned into a Warden to make up for his mistakes.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – NPCs Who Should’ve Been Romanceable

Dragon Age: The Veilguard features seven characters that players can pursue romantically, but it would’ve been nice if more options were available.

By doing this, the players may lose Alistair, but instead gain an incredible veteran warrior that has seen countless battles. Making this choice also means seeing Loghain again in the future as the Warden contact in Dragon Age: Inquisition, as long as he survives the events of Dragon Age: Origins.

12

Dog

One Of The Loyalist Companions In Origins

While this loyal companion may not wield a sword, shield, or hammer, the dog from Dragon Age: Origins is still one of the best warrior companions to be introduced into the Dragon Age franchise. If the player chooses to help the dog at the start of the game, the player will have a lifelong companion for the entirety of Dragon Age: Origins, even if he can’t speak a word of common.

Many fans of the franchise have gone out of their way to lovingly nickname this puppy, Barkspawn, with some players even using mods to allow them to bring this dog along with them while not losing space for a talking member of the team.

11

Carver

Hawke’s Younger Brother, Tired Of Living In Their Shadow

Systems

PlayStation-1 Xbox-1

As the little brother to the Champion of Kirkwall, Carver has always felt like he has been stuck in his sibling’s shadow, hoping to do something that allows himself to have the limelight at least once, while also not bringing too much attention to his sibling’s magic. During the story of Dragon Age 2, the player’s choices can steer Carver in different directions; from his death to becoming a Templar, or even becoming a Warden.

Players don’t get to have Carver as a companion often, but when they do, he’s a great addition to the team, especially as it’s always entertaining to adventure as a family. Being able to bring Carver in the various DLCs, especially Legacy adds plenty more content to this warrior companion.

10

Shale

A Golem With A Deep Past

  • Dragon Age: Origins – The Stone Prisoner DLC

Shale is one of the few DLC companions in the Dragon Age franchise that has been implemented entirely into the main story of the Dragon Age title. While many of the other Dragon Age: Origins DLCs have players only temporarily having the aid of these companions, players can spend all the time in the world with this stone golem.

9

Blackwall

The Fake Warden But Great Warrior

Systems

PlayStation-1 Xbox-1

Released

November 18, 2014

Dragon Age: Inquisition has plenty of incredible warrior companions for the player to not only use in combat but also interact with outside of it. One great warrior companion from the third title of the franchise is Blackwall, previously known as Thom Rainer.

When players first meet this champion warrior, he claims himself to be a Warden but can’t provide any information on what has happened to the rest of the Wardens. Through befriending him, players will learn that Blackwall isn’t a Warden at all and is instead attempting to hide his dark past of murdering for money. Something the player can help him redeem himself for, or hand him over to the Wardens for his lie.

8

Taash

They’re As Strong As A Dragon With A Fiery Temper

Systems

PlayStation-1 Xbox-1

Released

October 31, 2024

After countless years of no sign of a new game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released in 2024 and introduced players to two new warrior companions. Both of these warriors have incredible stories, with Taash’s story hitting deeper than most as it not only explores their identity as a Qunari born in Rivain but also their own identity as they come out as non-binary.

Besides this touching story that some players may relate to, Taash is also the first Adaari the players have met. These Qunari are a lot closer related to dragons than many others of the race, with Taash being able to breathe fire easily.

7

Aveline Vallen

One Of The Closest Friends Of Hawke And Captain Of The Guard

Aveline is not only an incredible fighter, as proven by her status as Captain within the Kirkwall Guard, but also a loyal friend to Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall. These two have been friends ever since they both fled from Lothering together during the Blight.

Dragon Age: Inquisition – Mods That Make The Game Even Better

Dragon Age: Inquisition is already a beloved RPG, but there are a few mods out there that can make the experience even better.

Even when Hawke appears to lose all their family during the events of Dragon Age 2, Aveline is like a big sister to Hawke, making her the perfect companion to bring along while completing the various quests. Underneath that warrior heart is an incredibly shy woman as she is also part of some hilarious quests of her own, such as the player helping her confess her feelings to Donnic.

6

Iron Bull

A Qunari That Is Capable Of Being Put On A New Path

Returning to the Qunari of Dragon Age, another great warrior companion players have encountered in recent years is the glorious Iron Bull. While huge, some players may be surprised to hear that this goliath of a man is actually a spy for the Qunari, known as the Ben-Hassrath.

During the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition, players can push Iron Bull toward leaving the Qun to instead protect the mercenary group that has become a family to him. Since Bull has been away from the Qun for so long, he is unlike any other Qunari the players had met previously in the franchise, with some even being interested in romancing him.

5

Sten

A Qunari That Begins To Respect The Warden

Unsurprisingly, out of the three warrior Qunari companions players have had throughout the franchise, Sten continues to be not only the greatest warrior companion but also the best Qunari companion. While a lot has changed about the Qunari and the Qun over the years, Sten was a great addition to the roster in Origins as it allowed the player to learn about this mysterious group of people.

Earning Sten’s respect meant having a strong ally in battle, while also learning more about Sten as a person. Although the player hasn’t seen him since, in the official canon of Dragon Age, Sten has become Arishok, proving himself as a military leader.

4

Davrin

The Perfect Example Of A Warden

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard

While Blackwall was pretending to be a Warden, a real Warden companion returned to Dragon Age: The Veilguard and he brought a Griffin friend along with him. Davrin is the perfect ideal of what it means to be a Warden, proving that good Wardens still exist even after the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Besides this, with the new approach to combat in The Veilguard, fighting alongside this Warden and his pet of legends makes for some interesting moments. Not to forget to mention that he plays a vital role in Veilguard since a Warden will be needed to defeat archdemons.

3

Fenris

Determined To Kill His Master And Be Free

Concluding the warriors found within Dragon Age 2, Fenris is by far one of the greatest warriors in the franchise through not only his power to wield such a large sword when he’s such a small elf but also due to his incredibly touching story that has hooked many fans.

Fenris was a slave who was tortured and turned into a weapon by carving lyrium into his skin. With the help of Hawke, Fenris is able to get revenge on his dark past, as well as hopefully encourage him to not think that all Mages are dangerous and evil. Even with the pain the tattoos bring, Fenris still makes the most of these abilities in battle.

2

Cassandra Pentaghast

Seeker Of Truth And Right Hand Of The Divine

It isn’t just the men of Dragon Age that make great warrior companions, as seen by the likes of Aveline and Ariane. However, Dragon Age: Inquisition arguably gave players their strongest companion. Cassandra Pentaghast has countless titles to her name, and Dragon Hunter blood in her veins.

As a Seeker, she already has abilities that rival those of the Templars without the lyrium addition, as well as being the previous Right Hand of the Divine. This, alongside her combat prowess, proves that Cassandra can hold her own in a fight, as well as having the initiative to make a difference in the world, by either becoming the Divine or rebuilding the Seekers.
