All endings in Silent Hill 2 Remake

Gaming value comes in all shapes and sizes. For silent Hill series, Konami likes to add a lot to the ending of the game. Silent Hill 2for example, it has six endings from the original game that Bloober's team kept in the update even though they changed it a bit. They also added two new endings for players to enjoy.

Getting to these ends requires a lot of hoops to jump through and key information highlighted. However, this is not a guide because this list will go through and establish the effectiveness of eight endings in the renewal of Silent Hill 2. Of course there will be spoilers.

7 UFO

James is a Clone?

• Direct Quest: New game + and find the Blue Gem and listen to his voice to guide you to the end of several stages.

UFO endings have become a tradition in the Silent Hill series and they are often unintentional. In this ending, James summons a UFO with a stone, and then it turns into a green-tinted silent movie with silent frames. James finds another version of himself coming down from the spaceship calling himself Space James and the real James in general. Earth James has always been a clone and now Space James, along with stereotypical alien creatures, invite James back into space. It's really weird and no fun but it's one of the nice things to see this update improve.

6 I felt complete peace

• Direct Requirement: New Game +, need Chainsaw and Key of Sorrow to start a quest at the Lakeview Hotel that will lead to this ending.

The name of this ending is Stillness and it is very simple yet terrifying. James is sitting in his car at the rest stop where the players are about to start the game. He spoke to Maria, who started talking again. Then his hand appears in the frame and at the end another piece of Mary is seen but her face is hidden throughout. First time players might expect a jump scare to happen at this point but nothing bad happens. James just cheats, talks to his wife in his car and then goes.

5 In the water

Hear Maria's letter in full

• Some requirements: Take a lot of damage, see important things like Maria's Letter, read the note, and visit Maria

In Water is similar to Stillness but players may be happier with this decision. It should be called Acceptance because the ending starts with James talking to Mary in his car but she admits he's not there. He asks this, looking behind his car, again, preparing a player with a jump scare.

But it never comes back and when the rain starts to fall, everything goes black and then the lake is shown as a sheet of paper jumping happily in the light. Mary reads her own letter, and reveals that James knows she is dead. The ending is bittersweet but beautiful in its simplicity nonetheless.

4 happiness

Home Movies With Sense of Dread

• Direct Requirements: New Game +, get the Rusted Key and Cryptic Note, follow the instructions, drink the White Claudia, and look at the tapes in James's room

Happiness can be interpreted in many ways. It starts with James walking into a room with tapes in a VCR. It's the biggest date in the game in the late 90s or early 2000s. He watches himself in Maria's movies when they get home. When it was all over, James gave the camera a strange look, dispelling Mary's suspicions that something was wrong. The tape stops and then everything fades to the room where James has now disappeared. Perhaps this means that James never left his home when he took Mary and this was a ruse. Or maybe that smile he gave to the camera was James admitting he was going to kill Mary when he got home. It's hard to say.

3 dog

Oh, it's always been a dog

• Direct Claim: New game +, find parts to create the Key Dog, unlock the observation room at the Lakeview Hotel

The end of the dog is as crazy as the end of the UFO. However, as much effort was put into the production, it was a great ending. James will enter the control room and ask for the person in the chair to appear. When they do, it turns out that a dog has been controlling Silent Hill for a long time. James fell to his knees, not sure how to continue. Instead of being mean, the dog just walked up to James and licked him. Look. Silent Hill 2 is one of the most gruesome and terrifying horror games ever released. The players deserve to succeed in this strange ending.

2 Maria

Sacrifice Love for others

• Some requirements: See important things like the Maria Letter, listen to Maria, and protect Maria

Maria is kind of a good ending depending on how the player sees it. It begins with James facing an apparition of Mary who is bitter towards him for letting her die. He then transforms into a monster, fights a boss, and the player must finish him off. Because of his death, James was able to return and save Mary.

He has now forgiven Mary and is ready to move on to a new girl. When they get back to their car, Maria starts coughing and James tells her that he should get it checked out. Could a virus have caused Maria's illness? There's a lot to unpack here but it's a bit of a betrayal for James to get back together with Mary even though it's good to let Mary go mentally.

1 rebirth

The old gods are calling

• Direct Requirements: New Game +, requires items such as Book of Crimson Ceremony, White Chrism, Obsidian Goblet, and Book of Lost Memories, and must be played on Normal

Rebirth begins with the same scene as Mary, but with a twist. James told this “Mary” that he knew she was Mary. He tried to tempt him to betray or sell his soul. Maria admits this and begins the same great war. James then lines up in the middle of the lake, talking to Maria about the old gods and the possibility of bringing them back. Presumably, James killed Mary, took her body aboard, and then planned to sacrifice her to the old gods to bring Mary back to life. James's is a little twisted because he still can't get Maria's mind off him, but it's interesting to see him row in the dark.

Is this the real Canon Ending?

• Some rules: Don't look at important things like Maria's Letter, don't read a lot of notes unrelated to the puzzle, Heal often, and Ignore Maria when you can.

Letting go is an ending that brings all the pieces together. James portrays Maria's death in a brutal way. First, through a series of great battles, and second, by seeing Mary in a sick state. It also ties everything together with Laura, the little girl, whose story is kind of left on the precipice if the players don't get that ending.

In general, this is what many consider to be the real end. It's not always a happy ending but the experience will be cathartic for the players. Since the game was built in a vacuum, however, there will never be a “real” ending unless Konami or Bloober Team go out of their way to make Square Enix do it. Silent Hill 2-2.
