A-League: Bulls axe Kearyn Baccus and Matthew Millar

Macarthur FC has severed ties with two players allegedly involved in the betting scandal that rocked the A-League

The Bulls announced on Monday that midfielder Kearyn Baccus and defender Matthew Millar are among eight players the club will not offer new contracts to.

Baccus, 32, was arrested last month amid a police investigation into alleged yellow card manipulation during Macarthur matches in the recently concluded 2023–23 A-League season.

Baccus appeared in Campbelltown Local Court last Thursday charged with membership of a criminal organisation and conduct that manipulated the outcome of a betting event.

The case was adjourned to 24 June at Downing Centre Local Court.

No charges have been filed against Millar, 27, but he is accused of “participating in a criminal organization” involving three accused players – Baccus, Bulls captain Ulises Davila and midfielder Clayton Lewis.

Mexican playmaker Davila and New Zealand international Lewis remain under contract with the Bulls but have been suspended indefinitely by Football Australia to “protect the integrity and reputation of the sport while the players face legal action”.

The other six players to whom the Bulls are not offering new contracts – Charles M’Mombwa, Daniel De Silva, Danijel Nizic, Jerry Skotadis, Jesper Webber and Tommy Smith – are not involved in the betting scandal.
